Static pickup and delivery problems: a classification scheme and survey

TLDR
A general framework to model a large collection of pickup and delivery problems, as well as a three-field classification scheme for these problems, is introduced.
Abstract
Pickup and delivery problems constitute an important class of vehicle routing problems in which objects or people have to be collected and distributed. This paper introduces a general framework to model a large collection of pickup and delivery problems, as well as a three-field classification scheme for these problems. It surveys the methods used for solving them.

GRASP with path relinking for the selective pickup and delivery problem

TL;DR: This work studies the selective pickup and delivery problem, where demand at every delivery node has to be satisfied by the supply collected from a subset of pickup nodes, and presents a GRASP with path-relinking for solving the described problem.

On the mathematical modeling of green one-to-one pickup and delivery problem with road segmentation

TL;DR: In this article, the authors proposed a mixed integer programming model for the one-to-one pickup and delivery problem with explicit fuel consumption, variable vehicle speed and road categorization, which can achieve significant savings in terms of total transportation cost.

Optimization of operational level transportation planning in forestry: a review

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors consider the transportation of forest products as a major contributor to the total operational costs; hence, its optimization has become an important aspect in supply chain planning.

Non-Elementary Formulations for Single Vehicle Routing Problems with Pickups and Deliveries

TL;DR: This work focuses on a well-studied problem in this class, known as the single vehicle routing problem with deliveries and selective pickups (SVRPDSP), in which deliveries are mandatory but pickups are optional and generate a revenue if performed, and customers requiring both a delivery and a pickup can be visited either once or twice.

Optimal scheduling of a taxi fleet with mixed electric and gasoline vehicles to service advance reservations

TL;DR: An innovative multi-layer taxi-flow time-space network which effectively describes the movements of the taxis in the dimensions of space and time is presented, showing that the model, coupled with the algorithms, can be an effective planning tool to assist the company in routing and scheduling its fleet to service reservation customers.

Computers and Intractability: A Guide to the Theory of NP-Completeness

TL;DR: The second edition of a quarterly column as discussed by the authors provides a continuing update to the list of problems (NP-complete and harder) presented by M. R. Garey and myself in our book "Computers and Intractability: A Guide to the Theory of NP-Completeness,” W. H. Freeman & Co., San Francisco, 1979.

Self-organized formation of topologically correct feature maps

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors describe a self-organizing system in which the signal representations are automatically mapped onto a set of output responses in such a way that the responses acquire the same topological order as that of the primary events.
