Studies of regulatory metabolism in Moniezia expansa: general considerations.

TLDR
Levels of metabolic intermediates in worms incubated aerobically and anaerobically are presented, and ‘cross-over’ plots and calculations of apparent equilibrium constants identify hexokinase, phosphofructokinase and pyruvate kinase as regulatory.

Journal ArticleDOI

Intermediary carbohydrate metabolism in protoscoleces of Echinococcus granulosus (horse and sheep strains) and E. multilocularis.

TL;DR: The steady state content of ATP and the ATP/AMP ratios are low in the three organisms, suggesting a low rate of ATP utilization in each and the tricarboxylic acid cycle may play a more important role in carbohydrate metabolism and energy production in the latter parasites.
Journal ArticleDOI

A possible biochemical mode of action for benzimidazole anthelmintics

TL;DR: These experiments indicate that the benzimidazole anthelmintics are lipid-soluble proton conductors that are effective in artificial and natural rat liver mitochondria membrane systems.
Book ChapterDOI

Carbon Dioxide Utilisation, and the Regulation of Respiratory Metabolic Pathways in Parasitic Helminths

TL;DR: The chapter distinguishes among the enzymes, when each of the major groups of parasitic helminths is considered from the point of view of CO2 utilization, and summarizes the roles that phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase (PEPCK), malic enzyme (ME), and pyruvATE carboxylase play in intermediary metabolism.
Journal ArticleDOI

Studies of regulatory metabolism in Moniezia expansa: Effects of cambendazole and mebendazole

TL;DR: Anaerobically and in the presence of glucose, both drugs inhibited glucose uptake and increased glycogen utilisation and adenine nucleotides but the formation of end products was unaffected.
Journal ArticleDOI

Changes in energy metabolism due to anthelmintics in Fasciola hepatica maintained in vitro

TL;DR: The effects of rafoxanide, nitroscanate and mebendazole on oxidative pathways in whole F. hepatica maintained in a simple salt solution have been examined and the mechanisms of action of the drugs are discussed.

A simple efficient liquid scintillator for counting aqueous solutions in a liquid scintillation counter

TL;DR: A modification of the naphthalene-dioxane-PPO liquid scintillator has been described which will allow up to 3.0 ml of an aqueous solution to be counted as mentioned in this paper.

d-Glucose: Determination with Hexokinase and Glucose-6-phosphate Dehydrogenase

TL;DR: This chapter discusses an enzymatic method for the determination of D -glucose with hexokinase and glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase, a method based on the optical method developed by O. Warburg and his collaborators.

[65] Assays of intermediates of the citric acid cycle and related compounds by fluorometric enzyme methods

TL;DR: This chapter is based on the assays of intermediates of the citric acid cycle and related compounds by fluorometric enzyme methods based on instruments capable of giving a full-scale deflection of the recorder with 0.25μM NADH, with a noise level less than 2%.
