Ecological and evolutionary effects of predation in environmental gradients

TL;DR: A large number of species in an ecosystem context have different distributions and the patterns of these distributions are poorly understood, leading to uncertainty in the predictions of species interactions and their consequences.

Growth performance of European whitefish [Coregonus lavaretus (L.)] under a constant light and temperature regime

TL;DR: The European whitefish seems to be a promising aquaculture species as the growth rate was relatively high with a remarkable homogenous growth performance between individual fish within each experimental unit, a relatively favourable FCR, a low degree of agonistic behaviour and negligible growth depression due to internal biological rhythms or gonad maturation.

The consequences of phenotypic plasticity on postglacial fishes

TL;DR: It is shown here that there are physiological effects associated with foraging on alternative prey that may significantly contribute towards ecological speciation and the effectiveness of local level conservation policy shows that species of fish which are highly variable in their life history strategies are harder to effectively manage and often poorly represented at a local level.

Population niche breadth and individual trophic specialisation of fish along a climate-productivity gradient

TL;DR: In this article, the authors conducted a space-for-time approach incorporating environmental gradients (temperature, precipitation and nutrients), lake morphometry (visibility, depth and area), fish communities (richness, competition and predation), prey availability and feeding (population niche breadth and individual trophic specialisation).

Model-Based Clustering, Discriminant Analysis, and Density Estimation

TL;DR: This work reviews a general methodology for model-based clustering that provides a principled statistical approach to important practical questions that arise in cluster analysis, such as how many clusters are there, which clustering method should be used, and how should outliers be handled.

The ecology of adaptive radiation

TL;DR: This chapter discusses the origins of ecological diversity and the ecological basis of speciation, as well as the progress of adaptive radiation and its role in ecology.
