Observations on surgical demand time series: detection and resolution of holiday variance.
TL;DR: The authors used the term holiday variance to describe a specific nonlinear disturbance in surgical demand attributable to statutory US holidays that may assist in management and scheduling of scarce surgical personnel and resources.

Optimizing Admission Control for Multiservice Wireless Networks With Bandwidth Asymmetry Between Uplink and Downlink
Xun Yang,Gang Feng,D.S.C. Kheong +2 more
TL;DR: A heuristic CAC policy called call-rate-based dynamic threshold (CRDT) policy is proposed to approximate the theoretical optimal policy based on the insights obtained from the modeling and the analytical study on the properties of the optimal policy.

Climate change and the macroeconomic structure in pre-industrial europe: new evidence from wavelet analysis.
TL;DR: Wavelet analysis shows a consistent and continuous frequency band of 60–80 years in the temperature, grain yield ratio, grain price, consumer price index, and real wage throughout the study period, and coherence analysis shows that the macroeconomic structure is shaped more by climate change than population change.

Open Problems in Universal Induction & Intelligence
TL;DR: The state of the art in universal induction and its extension to universal intelligence is described and the state-of-the-art is described only in passing and the reader is referred to the literature.

Does evolution of iteroparous and semelparous reproduction call for spatially structured systems
TL;DR: This work extended the evolutionary scenario into a spatially structured system with dispersal linkage among the subunits and found that a rare reproductive strategy can easily invade a population dominated by a resident reproductive strategy.
