The Abuse Liability and Therapeutic Potential of Drugs Evaluated for Cocaine Addiction as Predicted by Animal Models
Joshua A. Lile,Michael A. Nader +1 more
TL;DR: The intent of this review was to present data from animal models that assessed the reinforcing effects of these monoamine agonists using drug self-administration, and the rewarding effects, using the conditioned place preference paradigm to determine if animal models of reinforcing and rewarding effects were predictive of these drugs’ effects in humans.
Journal ArticleDOI
2013 Special Issue: Intrinsically motivated action-outcome learning and goal-based action recall: A system-level bio-constrained computational model
Gianluca Baldassarre,Francesco Mannella,Vincenzo G. Fiore,Peter Redgrave,Kevin Gurney,Marco Mirolli +5 more
TL;DR: A bio-constrained system-level model that contributes a major step towards integrating all key aspects of intrinsically motivated learning and behaviour while taking into account the relevant neurobiological constraints is proposed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Symbolic representation in animals: Emergent stimulus relations in conditional discrimination learning
TL;DR: Evidence for the common representation of stimuli associated with the same arbitrary event extends the nature of those representations beyond those well-established effects found when the common events are biologically important (e.g., the differential outcomes effect).
Journal ArticleDOI
An effect analogous to “frustration” on interval reinforcement schedules
John Staddon,Nancy K. Innis +1 more
TL;DR: There are similarities between pigeons’ behavior under interval reinforcement schedules and the behavior of rats in runways and a free-operant experiment analogous in certain respects to the double-runway procedure produced large “frustration effects” in pigeons.
Journal ArticleDOI
Cognitive components of color vision in honey bees: how conditioning variables modulate color learning and discrimination.
TL;DR: Evidence is reviewed showing that color learning and discrimination in bees are not governed by immutable properties of their visual system, but depend on how the insects are trained and thus learn a task, and top-down attentional modulation of color vision is suggested to explain the changes in colorlearning and discrimination.

The Mentality of Apes
TL;DR: Koehler's analysis of the intelligence of higher primates marked a turning point in the psychology of thinking and the continuing struggle between behaviorism and cognitive psychology as discussed by the authors, but it was largely ignored for decades because it violated the conventional wisdom that animal behavior is simply the result of instinct or conditioning.
Book
Psychology from the Standpoint of a Behaviorist
TL;DR: Wozniak as mentioned in this paper describes the early elaboration of the theory of reflex, habit, and implicit response in the early stages of the development of the early development of behaviourism.
Journal ArticleDOI
The irradiation of a tactile conditioned reflex in man.
