Douglas W. McKee

TLDR
The role of copper as a catalyst in the oxidation of graphite has been studied by optical microscopy and thermogravimetric analysis as mentioned in this paper, which suggests that the catalytic effect involves the localized reduction of cupric oxide by graphite and subsequent reoxidation of the resulting metal.

Induction plasma synthesis of fullerenes and nanotubes using carbon black-nickel particles

TL;DR: In this article, a thermodynamic study was carried out to predict the equilibrium composition of fullerenes produced at several combinations of operating conditions, and a statistical factorial design experiment was also developed, in order to study the influence of the system's operating parameters on the eventual C60 fullerene yield.

Study of heat-treated Spanish lignites: characteristics and behaviour in CO2 and O2 gasification reactions

TL;DR: In this article, the surface area, porosity and mineral matter content of six Spanish lignites (raw and demineralized) have been studied, as well as their reactivity in CO 2 flow in the range 1073-1113 K, and in dry air in the temperature range 733-773 K.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effect of adsorbed phosphorus oxychloride on the oxidation behavior of graphite

TL;DR: In this article, the effect of adsorbed POCl3 on the topography and rate of oxidation of natural graphite crystals was investigated, and it was shown that small amounts of adhesions significantly raised the oxidation temperature of graphite and inhibited the catalytic effects of metallic impurities such as copper.
Journal ArticleDOI

A screening study on the activation energy of vanadate‐based catalysts for diesel soot combustion

TL;DR: In this article, the activation energy of carbon combustion catalysed by vanadates or alkali vanadate/chlorides mixtures is assessed by the Ozawa method, and the most active catalyst, Cs4V2O7, entails more than 50% decrease of activation energy compared to non-catalytic combustion (from 157 down to 75 kJ/mol).
Journal ArticleDOI

Rapid and highly efficient growth of graphene on copper by chemical vapor deposition of ethanol

TL;DR: In this paper, the growth of graphene on copper from ethanol was investigated, focusing on processes of short duration (up to one min) and electron microscopy, Raman and X-ray photoemission spectroscopy.

Catalytic oxidation of graphite

TL;DR: In this article, the etch patterns of colloidal metal particles placed on graphite single crystals catalyse the oxidation of graphite, but the catalysis occurs only at the metal-carbon interface.

Etude de la combustion catalytique du graphite

TL;DR: In this article, the authors studied the catalytic effect of metal catalysts at such temperatures that the rate of the uncatalyzed reaction is negligible and showed that only metals able to oscillate between two degrees of oxidation, under the given conditions of combustion, do show a catalytic power.

Interaction of hydrogen and carbon monoxide on platinum group metals

TL;DR: In this article, the coadsorption and interaction of carbon monoxide and hydrogen on a series of unsupported noble metal catalysts was studied in the temperature range 100-200 °C.

Catalytic effect of major impurities on graphite oxidation

Edward A. Heintz, +1 more
- 01 Dec 1965 -
TL;DR: In this paper, it was shown that the divalent state of the metal enters into the oxidation mechanism of the graphite in a manner similar to that proposed by Long and Sykes.
