The copper-catalyzed oxidation of graphite
TLDR
The role of copper as a catalyst in the oxidation of graphite has been studied by optical microscopy and thermogravimetric analysis as mentioned in this paper, which suggests that the catalytic effect involves the localized reduction of cupric oxide by graphite and subsequent reoxidation of the resulting metal.About:

Filtration and catalytic abatement of diesel particulate from stationary sources
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors demonstrate that satisfying performance in carbon particulate abatement from stationary or quasi-stationary sources (e.g. power generation boilers based on combustion of fuel, wood, peat and coal, ferry boats, etc.), can be reached, at a lab-scale level, by coupling ceramic-foam filters with carbon combustion catalysts.

Mechanism of carbon deposits removal from supported Ni catalysts
Stavros-Alexandros Theofanidis,Vladimir Galvita,Hilde Poelman,Rakesh Batchu,Lukas Buelens,Christophe Detavernier,Guy Marin +6 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the regeneration mechanism of Ni catalysts, with respect to carbon removal, was investigated on support materials prepared by one-pot synthesis, and different mechanisms were distinguished depending on the redox functionality of the support material.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors studied the catalytic effect of metal catalysts at such temperatures that the rate of the uncatalyzed reaction is negligible and showed that only metals able to oscillate between two degrees of oxidation, under the given conditions of combustion, do show a catalytic power.
