The copper-catalyzed oxidation of graphite

Douglas W. McKee
- 01 Mar 1970 -
- Vol. 8, Iss: 2, pp 131-139
TLDR
The role of copper as a catalyst in the oxidation of graphite has been studied by optical microscopy and thermogravimetric analysis as mentioned in this paper, which suggests that the catalytic effect involves the localized reduction of cupric oxide by graphite and subsequent reoxidation of the resulting metal.

Surface characterization of plasma-modified carbon fiber: Correlation between surface chemistry and morphology of the single strand

TL;DR: In this article, the surface free energy of carbon fibers was measured using contact angle measurements. And the results were correlated with more conventional chemical and morphological surface analyses, such as surface analysis of carbon fiber.

How does the surface structure of Ni-Fe nano-alloys control carbon formation during methane steam/dry reforming?

TL;DR: The increasing energy consumption creates the need to investigate new routes for the utilization of the available resources, like natural gas and biogas, to produce fuels and chemicals as discussed by the authors, which makes CH4 one of the most affordable carbon feedstocks in the world.

Low temperature incineration of mixed wastes using bulk metal oxide catalysts

TL;DR: In this paper, a series of 14 metal oxides were screened in a thermogravimetric analyzer, using on-line mass spectrometry for speciation of reaction product gases.

Copper substrate as a catalyst for the oxidation of chemical vapor deposition-grown graphene

TL;DR: In this article, the catalytic effect of copper substrate on graphene-oxygen reaction at high temperature was investigated and it was shown that a freshly prepared copper-supported graphene sample can be completely oxidized in trace amount of oxygen.

Differential thermal analysis of PtO2/carbon

Kimio Kinoshita
- 01 Sep 1977 -
TL;DR: In this paper, the reactions between Pt oxides and carbon black in helium and air were examined by DTA and the results showed that Pt catalyzed the oxidation of cabon in the 20 wt.%Pt supported on carbon sample.

Catalytic oxidation of graphite

TL;DR: In this article, the etch patterns of colloidal metal particles placed on graphite single crystals catalyse the oxidation of graphite, but the catalysis occurs only at the metal-carbon interface.

Etude de la combustion catalytique du graphite

TL;DR: In this article, the authors studied the catalytic effect of metal catalysts at such temperatures that the rate of the uncatalyzed reaction is negligible and showed that only metals able to oscillate between two degrees of oxidation, under the given conditions of combustion, do show a catalytic power.

Interaction of hydrogen and carbon monoxide on platinum group metals

TL;DR: In this article, the coadsorption and interaction of carbon monoxide and hydrogen on a series of unsupported noble metal catalysts was studied in the temperature range 100-200 °C.

Catalytic effect of major impurities on graphite oxidation

Edward A. Heintz, +1 more
- 01 Dec 1965 -
TL;DR: In this paper, it was shown that the divalent state of the metal enters into the oxidation mechanism of the graphite in a manner similar to that proposed by Long and Sykes.
