TLDR
The role of copper as a catalyst in the oxidation of graphite has been studied by optical microscopy and thermogravimetric analysis as mentioned in this paper, which suggests that the catalytic effect involves the localized reduction of cupric oxide by graphite and subsequent reoxidation of the resulting metal.

Effect of copper addition on the activity and selectivity of oxide catalysts in the combustion of carbon particulate

TL;DR: In this article, different stable oxides Al 2 O 3, ZrO 2, TiO 2 and CeO 2 pure and supported copper (2 wt% CuO) systems have been studied in the catalytic combustion of a carbon black.

Copper catalysis in the air gasification of cellulosic chars

TL;DR: In this paper, an ion-exchanged substrate was prepared from carboxymethylcellulose in the cupric form (CuCMC), and sorbed celluloses were prepared by soaking in aqueous solutions of cupric acetate and cupric chloride (CuCF11-2) respectively, and a dry physical mixture from cellulose fibres and finely ground cupricacetate (cuCF11 -3) were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and by gasification in air.
Journal ArticleDOI

Chemical factors in carbon brush wear

TL;DR: In this article, a correlation between the oxidation characteristics and the wear rates of carbon brushes was found, and it was demonstrated that temperatures in the oxidation range can readily be generated by current converging through high resistance constrictions in the contact zone.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effects of ozone on the catalytic combustion of carbon black

TL;DR: In this article, the influence of ozonation on the catalytic and physico-chemical properties of Cu-Ce-Al oxides and carbon black (CB) was examined by thermal analysis and EPR spectroscopy.
Journal ArticleDOI

Catalytic oxidation of cyclohexane by size-selected palladium clusters pinned on graphite

TL;DR: In this paper, the catalytic oxidation of cyclohexane to CO and CO2 over size-selected palladium clusters (Pd N clusters, N = 10-120) supported on graphite as a function of cluster size was reported.

Catalytic oxidation of graphite

TL;DR: In this article, the etch patterns of colloidal metal particles placed on graphite single crystals catalyse the oxidation of graphite, but the catalysis occurs only at the metal-carbon interface.

Etude de la combustion catalytique du graphite

TL;DR: In this article, the authors studied the catalytic effect of metal catalysts at such temperatures that the rate of the uncatalyzed reaction is negligible and showed that only metals able to oscillate between two degrees of oxidation, under the given conditions of combustion, do show a catalytic power.
Journal ArticleDOI

Interaction of hydrogen and carbon monoxide on platinum group metals

TL;DR: In this article, the coadsorption and interaction of carbon monoxide and hydrogen on a series of unsupported noble metal catalysts was studied in the temperature range 100-200 °C.

Catalytic effect of major impurities on graphite oxidation

Edward A. Heintz, +1 more
- 01 Dec 1965 -
TL;DR: In this paper, it was shown that the divalent state of the metal enters into the oxidation mechanism of the graphite in a manner similar to that proposed by Long and Sykes.
