The formation of optimal vortex rings, and the efficiency of propulsion devices

TL;DR: In this article, an idealized model of the circulation, impulse and energy provided by the injected plug is developed, and these quantities are equated to the corresponding properties of the class of rings with finite cores described by Norbury (1973).
Journal ArticleDOI

Global vorticity shedding for a shrinking cylinder

TL;DR: In this paper, the viscous flow around a two-dimensional cylinder undergoing a rapid reduction in its diameter is modeled as a model problem for force production through shape change which is encountered in the locomotion of certain animals.

Behaviour of small regions of different gases carried in accelerated gas flows

TL;DR: In this paper, the acceleration effect of small regions in a flow where the density is different from that of the surrounding gas is investigated. But the results apply regardless of whether accelerations are produced by pressure waves in a non-steady flow or by curvature of streamlines in a steady flow.
