TLDR
Effect size estimates suggest that mindfulness-based therapy was moderately effective for improving anxiety and mood symptoms from pre- to posttreatment in the overall sample, and this intervention is a promising intervention for treating anxiety and Mood problems in clinical populations.Abstract:
Objective:Although mindfulness-based therapy has become a popular treatment, little is known about its efficacy. Therefore, our objective was to conduct an effect size analysis of this popular intervention for anxiety and mood symptoms in clinical samples.Method:We conducted a literature search using PubMed, PsycINFO, the Cochrane Library, and manual searches. Our meta-analysis was based on 39 studies totaling 1,140 participants receiving mindfulness-based therapy for a range of conditions, including cancer, generalized anxiety disorder, depression, and other psychiatric or medical conditions. Results:Effect size estimates suggest that mindfulness-based therapy was moderately effective for improving anxiety (Hedges’sg!0.63) and mood symptoms (Hedges’sg!0.59) from pre- to posttreatment in the overall sample. In patients with anxiety and mood disorders, this intervention was associated with effect sizes (Hedges’sg) of 0.97 and 0.95 for improving anxiety and mood symptoms, respectively. These effect sizes were robust, were unrelated to publication year or number of treatment sessions, and were maintained over follow-up.Conclusions:These results suggest that mindfulnessbased therapy is a promising intervention for treating anxiety and mood problems in clinical populations.read more

Hope and emotional well-being: A six-year study to distinguish antecedents, correlates, and consequences
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors collected ratings of hope and positive and negative affect from 975 adolescents over a six-year assessment period (Grades 7-12) and found that hope led to greater positive affect, with little evidence for the reverse direction.

Benefits of preparing for childbirth with mindfulness training: a randomized controlled trial with active comparison
Larissa G. Duncan,Larissa G. Duncan,Michael Cohn,Maria T. Chao,Joseph G. Cook,Jane Riccobono,Nancy Bardacke +6 more
TL;DR: This small RCT demonstrated mindfulness-based childbirth education improved women’s childbirth-related appraisals and psychological functioning in comparison to standard childbirth education, and suggested mindfulness training carefully tailored to address fear and pain of childbirth may lead to important maternal mental health benefits.

TL;DR: HBPa was found to increase steadily over the training, with significant and small- to medium-sized effects emerging after 6 months (Cohen's d = .173) and 9 months (d=273) of mental training.

TL;DR: This is the first meta-analysis to show that the mere, regular performance of mindfulness exercises is beneficial, even without being integrated in larger therapeutic frameworks, and decreased, but remained significant when corrected for potential publication bias.
