TLDR
The key features of the ENVISAT ASAR system are presented and the ASAR Ground Processor is presented highlighting the concepts for its development and the performance achieved versus the ESA specifications.Abstract:
The European Space Agency has selected an advanced synthetic aperture radar operating at C-band (5.331 GHz) as a payload for the forthcoming ENVISAT mission. The sensor ensures continuity of ERS SAR and features enhanced capability in terms of coverage, range of incidence angles, polarisations and modes of operation. This paper presents the key features of the ENVISAT ASAR system. The ASAR instrument modes of operation are discussed. The ASAR Ground Processor is presented highlighting the concepts for its development and the performance achieved versus the ESA specifications. The selection of processing algorithm for each product is discussed based on the image quality requirements and the throughput.read more

Potential for High Resolution Systematic Global Surface Soil Moisture Retrieval via Change Detection Using Sentinel-1
Michael Hornacek,Wolfgang Wagner,Daniel Sabel,Hong-Linh Truong,Paul Snoeij,T. Hahmann,E. Diedrich,Marcela Doubkova +7 more
TL;DR: The potential for providing systematic surface soil moisture retrieval over Land Masses and in near real time using a change detection approach is presented, concluding that such a service is-subject to the mission operating as foreseen-expected to be technically feasible.

Spatial Variation of NO2 and Its Impact Factors in China: An Application of Sentinel-5P Products
TL;DR: The comparison of Coefficient of Variation and spatial autocorrelation models at two kinds of administrative scales indicates that although the spatial heterogeneity of NO2 column concentration is less affected by the observed scale, there is a “delayed effect” of about one month in the process of NO1 column concentration fluctuation.

Parallel Branch-Cut Algorithm Based on Simulated Annealing for Large-Scale Phase Unwrapping
TL;DR: A novel hybrid multiprocessing and multithreading algorithm is proposed in order to overcome the problem of unwrapping large data sets and it is demonstrated that the proposed algorithm can be efficiently parallelized and performed across nodes in a high-performance computing cluster.
