Journal ArticleDOI

Deterioration of polyethylene pipes exposed to water containing chlorine dioxide

TL;DR: In this article, it was shown that chlorine species used as disinfectants in tap water have a deteriorating effect on many materials including polyethylene, and there are only very few scientific reports on the effect of chlorine on polyethylenes.
Journal ArticleDOI

Transformation of 17 alpha-Ethinylestradiol during Water Chlorination: Effects of Bromide on Kinetics, Products, and Transformation Pathways

TL;DR: A kinetic model was developed which allows to predict EE2 transformation during chlorination of natural waters and wastewaters in presence of Br(-) and low concentrations of ammonia and it could be demonstrated in these systems that bromine produced from Br(+) is mainly responsible for EE2 Transformation.
Journal ArticleDOI

Potential of Electrolyzed Water as an Alternative Disinfectant Agent in the Fresh-Cut Industry

TL;DR: In this article, the advantages and limitations of electrolyzed water, particularly regarding the organic matter content, are discussed and compared to the use of hypochlorite, and a new electrochemical process using boron-doped diamond electrodes can generate additional reactive oxidant species than chlorine.
Journal ArticleDOI

Comparison of disinfectants for biofilm, protozoa and Legionella control.

TL;DR: Chlor dioxide and chlorine (as bleach or obtained by electro-chlorination) were the most effective treatments in this study, however, in comparison with chlorine, chlorine dioxide showed a longer residual activity in the system, which constituted an advantage in the perspective of an application to extensive pipework systems.
Journal ArticleDOI

Formation of iodinated disinfection by-products during oxidation of iodide-containing waters with chlorine dioxide

TL;DR: Results showed that most of these model compounds could form a considerable amount of I-DBPs, especially for propanoic acid, butanoic Acid, resorcinol, hydroquinone, alanine, glutamic acid, phenylalanine and serine.
