TLDR
In this article, the presence of steam has been found to accelerate the oxidation in oxygen of mild steel and two grades of pure iron of varying purity, and the effect was found to be greater on round test pieces than on flat rectangular ones.

Strength of Direct Reduced Iron Following Gas-Based Reduction and Carburization

TL;DR: In this paper, the effects of gas composition and the extent of reduction on the compressive strength of direct reduced iron (DRI) were investigated, and structural changes accompanying reduction and carburization were investigated with scanning electron microscopy, swelling was measured, and phases were quantified by X-ray diffraction.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effects of trace impurities on the adherence of oxide to ultra low carbon steel

TL;DR: The effects of trace impurities on the adherence of oxides to ultra low carbon steels were investigated in this paper, where three steels, of differing chromium, aluminium, silicon, nitrogen and oxygen content, were oxidized at 850 K in 10% CO2-90% N2 gas and then oxidised at 770 K in10% CO 2-10% O2-80% N 2 gas.
Journal ArticleDOI

Influence of fuel combustion on the corrosion behavior of pipeline steels in fire flooding technology

TL;DR: In this paper , a simulation device of organic fuel combustion was designed and used for comparative study between air and kerosene atmosphere, which showed that carbon particles after incomplete combustion can exist on the surface and inside the oxide scale, which would inhibit the reduction of oxides by carbon in substrate and the decarburization of 37Mn5 steel.
Journal ArticleDOI

Oxidation and wear behavior of high-speed steel and semi-high-speed steel used in hot strip mill

TL;DR: In this article, two grades of semi-high-speed and high-speed steel were investigated: one grade of high speed steel and one class of highspeed steel, and the evolution of the microstructure was observed by optical and scanning electron microscopies.
Journal ArticleDOI

Cyclic oxidation of AISI 316L stainless steel – influence of water vapour between 800 and 1000°C

TL;DR: In situ X-ray diffraction was used to analyze the oxide formation on AISI 316L specimens during isothermal oxidation at 1000°C in moist air as mentioned in this paper, which showed that the breakaway oxidation is due to the iron oxidation starting after 31 h oxidation.

The hydrogen embrittlement of metals

TL;DR: A comprehensive survey of the literature with regard to the subject of hydrogen embrittlement in metals can be found in this paper, where the authors present a detailed critical analysis of the characteristics and mechanisms of hydrogen brittleness in the body-centered-cubic metals (including steel, titanium, alphazirconium and alpha-uranium).

The Mechanism of Scale Formation On Iron at High Temperature

TL;DR: In this paper, a new mechanism of high temperature oxidation of iron is proposed, where diffusion of lattice vacancies in the iron is shown to influence the type of oxide that forms.

Die Verzunderungsgeschwindigkeit von reinem Eisen und Weichstahl in Sauerstoff, Wasserdampf und Kohlendioxid bei Temperaturen zwischen 850 und 1000° C

TL;DR: In this article, the authors conducted a series of experiments in Sauerstoff, Luft, CO2 and Wasserdampf and found that the results tended to be lower then those corresponding to the ideal parabola.
