In this paper, the authors described dynamic strain aging (DSA) in solid solutions as diffusion of solute atoms to mobile dislocations, temporarily arrested at obstacles, and calculated the dependence of the flow stress on strain rate, temperature, and strain in the presence of DSA.Abstract:
Dynamic strain aging (DSA) in solid solutions is described as diffusion of solute atoms to mobile dislocations, temporarily arrested at obstacles. As a consequence the solute concentration experienced locally by the dislocations depends on the time of arrest and the solute diffusion coefficient. Starting from this idea the dependence of the flow stress on strain rate, temperature, and strain in the presence of DSA is calculated. A criterion for the onset of serrated yielding is formulated. Finally the change in strain rate sensitivity due to DSA is calculated. The theory allows a qualitative and in some respects a quantitative comparison with experimental results of which some examples are given.read more

Scale-dependent pop-ins in nanoindentation and scale-free plastic fluctuations in microcompression
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors show that both nanoindentation and micro-crystal deformation exhibit fundamentally different event-size statistics obtained from plastic instabilities, and they successfully test a previously proposed extreme-value statistics model that relates the average first critical stress to the shape and scale parameter of the underlying Weibull distribution.

TL;DR: In this paper , a dynamic strain aging (DSA) regime was established for a near-α titanium alloy with a microstructure consisting of 80% equiaxed α, 15% lamellar α and 5% β with silicon in solid solution through a series of constant strain rate tests carried out in tension from 5 × 10−2 to 5× 10−6 s−1 in the temperature range of 623-823 K.
