TLDR
In this article, the concentrations of barium (Ba), copper (Cu), chromium (Cr), nickel (Ni), lead (Pb), strontium (Sr), vanadium (V), and zinc (Zn) were determined based on 22 representative natural (i.e., uncultivated) surface soils of the Sant Climent Municipal District (Catalonia, Spain); it establishes the geochemical baseline concentrations and investigates possible relationships between soil properties and trace element concentrations.

Heavy metal pollution of coal mine-affected agricultural soils in the northern part of Bangladesh

TL;DR: Multivariate statistical analyses, principal component and cluster analyses, suggest that Mn, Zn, Pb and Ti are derived from anthropogenic sources, particularly coal mining activities, and the extreme proximal and distal parts are heavily contaminated with maximum heavy metals.
Journal ArticleDOI

Source identification and health risk assessment of metals in urban soils around the Tanggu chemical industrial district, Tianjin, China

TL;DR: Soil properties, particularly the organic matter content, were found to be important factors in the distribution and composition of metals and may pose significant health risks to the population.

Vanadium, recent advancements and research prospects: A review.

TL;DR: This review article illustrates briefly about V, its role and shows the progress about V research so far done globally in the light of the previous work which may assist in inter-disciplinary studies to evaluate the ecological importance of V toxicity.
Journal ArticleDOI

Heavy metals in soils: distribution, relationship with soil characteristics and radionuclides and multivariate assessment of contamination sources.

TL;DR: Correlations of some metals and radionuclides observed for analyzed soils could be explained by their common affinity for clay minerals, but positive correlations with organic matter and clay content but not with pH have been observed for most of elements analyzed in this study.
Journal ArticleDOI

From geochemical background determination to pollution assessment of heavy metals in sediments and soils

TL;DR: In this article, a review of the different approaches as well as the main normalization methods for heavy metal concentrations in sediments and soils is discussed, where both geochemical background concentrations and added risk level (maximum permissible addition) should be taken into account for setting up legal threshold limits.

Chromium in the environment: factors affecting biological remediation

TL;DR: In this article, the state of knowledge about chromium mobility and distribution in the environment and the physiological responses of plants to chromium with the desire to understand how these processes influence our ability to use low cost, environmentally friendly biological remediation technologies to clean up contaminated soils, sediments, and waters.
