TLDR
In this paper, the authors analyzed the economic significance of the traditional "wait-and-see" effect of uncertainty shocks and pointed to financial distortions as the main mechanism through which fluctuations in uncertainty affect macroeconomic outcomes.
Abstract
Micro- and macro-level evidence indicates that fluctuations in idiosyncratic uncertainty have a large effect on investment; the impact of uncertainty on investment occurs primarily through changes in credit spreads; and innovations in credit spreads have a strong effect on investment, irrespective of the level of uncertainty. These findings raise a question regarding the economic significance of the traditional "wait-and-see" effect of uncertainty shocks and point to financial distortions as the main mechanism through which fluctuations in uncertainty affect macroeconomic outcomes. The relative importance of these two mechanisms is analyzed within a quantitative general equilibrium model, featuring heterogeneous firms that face time-varying idiosyncratic uncertainty, irreversibility, nonconvex capital adjustment costs, and financial frictions. The model successfully replicates the stylized facts concerning the macroeconomic implications of uncertainty and financial shocks. By influencing the effective supply of credit, both types of shocks exert a powerful effect on investment and generate countercyclical credit spreads and procyclical leverage, dynamics consistent with the data and counter to those implied by the technology-driven real business cycle models.

Credit crunches and credit allocation in a model of entrepreneurship

TL;DR: In this article, the effects of credit shocks in a model with heterogeneous entrepreneurs, financing constraints, and a realistic firm-size distribution were studied, and it was shown that negative shocks have a very persistent effect on real activity.

Economic policy uncertainty and corporate investment: evidence from the U.S. hospitality industry.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors examined the effect of economic policy uncertainty on the investment policy of 305 hospitality companies in the U.S. for the period 2001-2018 and found that investment policies in hospitality companies are negatively affected by EPU.

Uncertainty across volatility regimes

TL;DR: The authors proposed a nonrecursive identification scheme for uncertainty shocks that exploits breaks in the volatility of macroeconomic variables and is novel in the literature on uncertainty, which allows to simultaneously address two major questions in the empirical literature: Is uncertainty a cause or effect of decline in economic activity? Does the relationship between uncertainty and economic activity change across macroeconomic regimes?

Coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak, investor sentiment, and medical portfolio: Evidence from China, Hong Kong, Korea, Japan, and U.S

TL;DR: Wang et al. as mentioned in this paper explored whether investor sentiment, driven by Coronavirus-related news (CRNs) and economic-related announcements (ERAs), is priced in medical stock portfolios in China, Hongkong, Korea, Japan, and U.S. and found that CRNs exert significant and positive effects on the five markets' medical portfolios.

Financial Frictions in Macroeconomic Fluctuations

TL;DR: The authors review some of the most popular ideas proposed in the literature and show how the modeling of nancial market frictions helps us understand several dynamic features of the macro-economy.

Another look at the instrumental variable estimation of error-components models

TL;DR: In this paper, a framework for efficient IV estimators of random effects models with information in levels which can accommodate predetermined variables is presented. But the authors do not consider models with predetermined variables that have constant correlation with the effects.

The Cross‐Section of Expected Stock Returns

TL;DR: In this paper, Bhandari et al. found that the relationship between market/3 and average return is flat, even when 3 is the only explanatory variable, and when the tests allow for variation in 3 that is unrelated to size.
