Anti-Ro/SS-A Positivity and Heat Shock Protein Antibodies in Patients With Normal-pressure Glaucoma

TL;DR: Anti-Ro/SS-A positivity by ELISA in 10 patients with normal-pressure glaucoma was associated with a high level of serum immunoreactivity to bacterial hsp60, which may indicate that theirglaucomatous optic neuropathy involves an as yet unidentified autoimmune mechanism.
Journal ArticleDOI

Increased vascular catecholamine sensitivity and alpha-adrenergic receptor affinity in female and estrogen-treated male rats.

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that estrogens increase the affinity of α-adrenergic receptors in blood vessels, and evidence that the estrogen-induced increase in vascular sensitivity to catecholamine-induced contraction is mediated, at least in part, by these affinity changes is provided.
Journal ArticleDOI

Prognosis in rheumatoid arthritis. A longitudinal study of newly diagnosed younger adult patients.

TL;DR: Computer-assisted data screening and multivariate analytic technics were employed to derive a simple index from entry data which correlated closely with the patients' subsequent articular course and developed promise to assist with a broad range of clinical research and medical care delivery problems.
Journal ArticleDOI

Symptoms of the Neck and Upper Extremities in Dentists

TL;DR: The high frequency of symptoms from the neck, shoulders, and upper extremities of the dentists was probably related to their difficult work positions with cervical flexion and rotation, abducted arms, and repetitive precision-demanding handgrips.
Journal ArticleDOI

Testosterone-induced relaxation of rat aorta is androgen structure specific and involves K+ channel activation.

TL;DR: Data reveal that Tes-induced vasorelaxation is a structurally specific effect of the androgen molecule, which is enhanced in more polar analogs that have a lower permeability to the VSM cell membrane, and that the effect of Tes involves activation of K+ efflux through K+ channels in VSM, perhaps via the voltage-dependent (delayed-rectifier) K+ channel.

Journal ArticleDOI

Pathologic observations in systemic sclerosis (scleroderma). A study of fifty-eight autopsy cases and fifty-eight matched controls

TL;DR: The organs found to be frequently and significantly involved by systemic sclerosis were the skin, gastrointestinal tract, lungs, kidneys, skeletal muscle and pericardium, and atrophy was usually a more prominent finding than was fibrosis in organs containing smooth muscle.
Journal ArticleDOI

Systemic lupus erythematosus: review of the literature and clinical analysis of 138 cases

TL;DR: This Year Book will give the reader a picture of the pattern of pathology through his eyes, and most of the subjects and papers chosen for inclusion are, as is to be expected, newer work and newer concepts arising in the past year.
Journal ArticleDOI

Vascular Disease in Progressive Systemic Sclerosis (Scleroderma)

TL;DR: Clinical, morphological, and functional criteria for progressive systemic sclerosis are studied, and there is no general agreement on the point of pathological impact.
