TLDR
In this article, a collision avoidance system for use in a vehicle is described, where a sensor subsystem is used to capture sensor data relating to one or more areas outside the vehicle, and a threat assessment is sent to a feedback subsystem so that if appropriate, a response is generated by the system.
Abstract
A collision avoidance system for use in a vehicle. The system facilitates the avoidance of other vehicles and other potential hazards or obstacles. A sensor subsystem is used to capture sensor data relating to one or more areas outside the vehicle. Sensor data is sent from the sensor subsystem to a threat assessment subsystem for generating a threat assessment from the sensor data. The threat assessment is then sent to a feedback subsystem so that if appropriate, a response is generated by the system. The response can take the form of a visual, audio, and/or haptic warning. The response can also take the form of changes with respect to the vehicle itself, such as an automatic reduction in speed. The system can incorporate user-based attributes, vehicle-based attributes, and environment-based attributes in evaluating potential threats and contemplating system responses to those threats. A wide variety of different heuristics can be applied by the system. The system can be configured to minimize nuisance alarms and accommodate distinctions between users based on user preferences, user history, and other factors.

Driving support device

TL;DR: A driving support device includes a sensor for acquiring object information on an object outside a vehicle; and a processing device for suppressing driving support, which is based on the object information, if an operation frequency of a wiper is equal to or higher than a predetermined reference as discussed by the authors.

Sensor Control System for Autonomous Vehicle

TL;DR: In this article, a sensor control system can access respective first data and second data descriptive of one or more monitored parameters associated with a first sensor of an autonomous vehicle and determine that a change in the monitored parameters between the first sensor and the other sensors has exceeded a predetermined threshold level.

Safe state to safe state navigation

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a system for navigating a host vehicle that includes at least one processing device programmed to determine a navigational action of the host vehicle, analyze the at least image to identify a target vehicle in the environment of the target vehicle, and determine a next-state distance between the host vehicles and the target vehicles that would result if the navigational actions were taken.

Vehicle monitoring devices and methods for managing man down signals

TL;DR: In this article, a system and method for identifying speeding violations is proposed, comprising determining a current speed and a current location of a vehicle, determining a posted speed limit for the current location from a speed-by-street database, comparing the current speed of the vehicle to the posted speed, and evaluating whether the current speeding exceeds the posted limit.

System and method for managing submaps for controlling autonomous vehicles

TL;DR: In this paper, a system to use submaps to control operation of a vehicle is described, where a storage system is provided with a vehicle to store a collection of submaps that represent a geographic area where the vehicle may be driven.

Method and apparatus for determining driver fitness in real time

TL;DR: In this article, a method and apparatus for evaluating a driver's performance under actual real-time conditions to determine the driver's ability to safely operate a vehicle, utilizes the information that is gathered by a radar system (200, 210) and other sensors (4a), together with information previously stored in an event recording device.

Method and apparatus for transferring information between vehicles

TL;DR: In this article, a warning is automatically generated to notify the vehicle operator of the impending collision, and the sensor data and kinematic state of the vehicle can be transmitted to other vehicles so that the other vehicles are also notified of possible collision conditions.

Near object detection system

TL;DR: In this paper, a near object detection (NOD) system includes a plurality of sensors, each of the sensors for providing detection coverage in a predetermined coverage zone and each sensor including a transmit antenna for transmitting a first RF signal, a receive antenna for receiving a second RF signal.

Vehicle use control

TL;DR: In this paper, a system for restricting use of a vehicle by a selected vehicle operator to permitted time intervals and permitted vehicle travel corridors is presented, where a driver is seated behind the driver's wheel, and the system requires that the driver provide one or more samples of an ident indicium, such as a fingerprint, facial scan, retinal scan, voice sample or blood sample analysis, to identify the driver or of a personal identification indicium contained on a token or card, or of personal information entered using a data entry device (e.g., keypad).
