High-Precision Extraction Method for Blade Tip-Timing Signal with Eddy Current Sensor

TL;DR: A new denoising and shaping algorithm based on ensemble empirical mode decomposition (EEMD) was introduced for the errors caused by background noise and an optimal installation position of the sensor was proposed for theerrors caused by the asymmetry of the blade tip shape.

Optical-fiber-based dynamic measurement system for 3D tip clearance of rotating blades

TL;DR: A dynamic model for measuring the 3D tip clearance of rotating blades using an isosceles-right-triangle sensing structure consisting of three identical two-circle coaxial optical fiber bundles and a demodulation approach using the ratios of difference signals between any two bundles based on the Taylor expansion principle is proposed.

Damage detection in high-speed rotated blades by blade tip-timing method based on compressed sensing

TL;DR: In this article, a compressed sensing (CS) method is proposed to solve the problem of under-sampling of rotational BTT signals for damage detection in turbomachinery.

Assessment of rotor blades stationarity condition based on differences in phase shifts

TL;DR: An extension of the previously developed method based on differences in phase shifts of measurement signals is proposed, and an extended definition of diagnostic thresholds is introduced, and it is demonstrated that only simultaneous analysis of these two conditions assesses the actual blades condition properly, and gives rationale to take a decision about a potential overhaul of the machine.

Triboelectric nanogenerator metamaterials for joint structural vibration mitigation and self-powered structure monitoring

TL;DR: In this article , a metamaterial-inspired triboelectric nanogenerator (META-TENG) is proposed to simultaneously realize vibration suppression and energy harvesting, which can generate low frequency local resonant phenomenon and significantly reduce the incident vibration at the low-frequency band.

High cycle fatigue in aircraft gas turbines—an industry perspective

TL;DR: The largest single cause of component failures in modern military aircraft gas turbine engines is high cycle fatigue (HCF), exceeding the number attributed to low cycle fatigue, corrosion, overstress, manufacturing processes, mechanical damage, and materials.

Flutter and Resonant Vibration Characteristics of Engine Blades

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present an in-depth study of blade vibration problems that seriously impact development of advanced gas turbine configurations, and they conclude that structural integrity of power plants is the dominant factor that influences the quality, reliability, and marketability of the product.
Journal ArticleDOI

An investigation of fatigue failures of turbine blades in a gas turbine engine by mechanical analysis

TL;DR: In this article, a series of mechanical analyses were performed to identify the possible causes of the failures by examining anomalies in the mechanical behaviour of the turbine blade, and the steady-state stresses and dynamic characteristics of the blade were evaluated and synthesized in order to determine the cause of blade failures.

Experimental crack propagation and failure analysis of the first stage compressor blade subjected to vibration

TL;DR: In this paper, the results of experimental vibration tests of the helicopter turbo-engine compressor blades were presented for selected undamaged blades, without existence of preliminary cracks or corrosion pits.

Failure analysis of Ti6Al4V gas turbine compressor blades

TL;DR: In this article, the failure mechanism of Ti6Al4V compressor blades of an industrial gas turbine was analyzed by means of both experimental characterisations and numerical simulation techniques Several premature failures occurred in the high pressure section of the compressor due to the fracture of the blade roots.
