Wave energy extraction in Scotland through an improved nearshore wave atlas

TL;DR: In this paper, a long-term hindcast for the Scottish coastlines run from 2004 to 2014 (11 years) improving the existing wave maps and resource estimations is presented, underlining the importance of resource assessment and attempts to improve the quantifiable wave power resource with use of a validated numerical model.
Journal ArticleDOI

Viability and economic analysis of wind energy resource for power generation in Johannesburg, South Africa

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated wind characteristics and wind power potential of Johannesburg using 5-min average time series wind speed collected between 2005 and 2009 at anemometer height of 10 meters.

Economic assessment of water pumping systems using wind energy conversion systems in the southern part of nigeria

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors assessed the wind energy potential and the economic viability of the water pumping systems supplied by various wind turbine models using two-parameter Weibull probability density function to analyze the wind speed data collected between 1971 and 2007 by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency for seven meteorological stations, in the southern part of Nigeria, namely Asaba, Calabar, Ogoja, P-Harcourt, Uyo, Benin City, and Warri.

Adequacy evaluation of wind power generation systems

TL;DR: In this paper, a Monte Carlo model simulation is incorporated in the algorithm to obtain the hourly power output of wind farms, which also takes into account the unavailability of wind turbines, and the reliability index of LOLE (loss of load expectation) is used to estimate the reliable contribution of wind farm power generation.

Estimation of wind speed probability distribution and wind energy potential using adaptive neuro-fuzzy methodology

TL;DR: A hybrid intelligent learning based adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) is proposed to accurately estimate the Weibull wind speed PDF and the results are compared with five well-known numerical methods and indicate that ANFIS provides the best fit of measured WeIBull distribution curve.
