Abstract: Cost-effective monitoring concentration of residue chlorine in water can be simply accomplished via colorimetry where the selected indicating chemical material reacts with the chlorine in water to change its color. To suppress errors from reading the color level by naked eyes and from fluctuation of environmental illumination, this paper proposes a mobile-platform based colorimeter embedded with a self-referencing analysis for converting the color level of water to its corresponding chlorine concentration. The key idea relies on a two-dimensional (2D) color analysis in a portable closed chamber. Specifically, our 2D color analysis with self referencing is performed via the arrangement of both the reference material and the glass bottle in such a way that they both fit in the field of view of the mobile-device's camera. In this way, one color image inherently contains two image regions, one from the reference material and another from the glass bottle. Consequently, a specific color ratio from these two image regions is used for specifically converting the water color inside the glass bottle into its corresponding chlorine concentration. By using a chemical reaction between o -tolidine solution and chlorine dissolved in water and a smart mobile phone, the demonstration shows a very promising result in determining 0.06–2.0 ppm chlorine concentration in water. Other key features include cost effectiveness, compactness, portability, and ease of implementation.

Abstract: The use of the Beer–Lambert law in spectroscopy is the core of standard methods for determining a chromophore concentration in a solution. Its application requires an understanding about interaction of light with a colored solution and the use of light emission and light detection devices. We build here a simple electronic circuit formed of light-emitting diodes and light-dependent resistors that can be used for measuring chromophore concentrations during experiments focused on chemical kinetics: decolorizing of phenolphthalein in a basic solution, and reduction of methylene blue by ascorbic acid. From the chemical point of view, the goal is to determine experimentally the rate law. In addition, students understand, using inexpensive electronics, the basic design of a spectrophotometer to achieve successful measurements of absorbance.

The colorimeter may be programmed to cycle through the resistors and select a calibration based on a low predefined voltage target for reflection from a black surface and a higher predefined voltage target for reflection from a white surface. The light source is a RGB light source having a tri-band wavelength light.

The image processing apparatus includes a processing circuitry, and the processing circuitry and the image processing method obtain a color image output from an image forming unit, predict an output color of the image forming unit to generate a predicted color specification value independent from the image forming unit, extract from the input image data a colorimetry area for color difference determination, obtain a colorimetric value of an area of the color image that corresponds to the extracted colorimetry area, using a colorimeter, and add a colorimetric error at the colorimeter due to a color arrangement on the input image data to the predicted color specification value, to obtain a corrected colorimetric value of the area of the color image.

Abstract: An embedded system based colorimeter has been developed for the analysis of copper in waste water. The design is based on the ARM-7 LPC-2148 processor. The data convertor section of the processor is interfaced to the photoelectric sensor of the colorimeter. The inbuilt DAC is used for the control of intensity of incident light produced by light source. The monochromatic colored LEDs are used as source of stable light. Similarly the inbuilt ADC is used to measure the potential corresponding to the transmitted light. The transmitted light is detected and converted into potential by the LDR circuit. The instrumental and the experimental errors introduced due to the absorption by cuvette and the reagent respectively were compensated by the software techniques. In addition to above functions, the software performs the operations of calculation of absorptivity coefficient, detection and estimation of concentration of copper. The developed equipment has been successfully used for the analysis of copper in waste water. The software program can be easily modified for the similar study of other analytes.

Abstract: Traditional integral colorimeters use tungsten-halogen or xenon lamps for illumination, as well as correcting filters to make the instrument's spectral response meet the Luther condition. This structure causes the instruments to have relatively higher error and poor repeatability. Thus, this letter proposes a new measurement design that uses compound LEDs as the instrument's measurement light source. The new design adjusts the instrument's spectral response by modifying the spectra of the compound LEDs. A compound LED light source is designed for integral colorimeters, and an experiment is conducted to evaluate the performance of the integral colorimeter. Experiments show that the design effectively reduces the error of integral colorimeters.

When the color of the image display device is measured using a tri-stimulus colorimeter, even if the oscillation shape and the period of a square wave of a black light unit (BLU) of the display device are changed, the deviation of the collected color measurement data can be minimized, so that colors can be exactly measured and XYZ values can be calculated.

Abstract: The present application relates to a colorimeter measurement method and a colorimeter for implementing the method. The method includes the following steps: placing a measured sample on a sample platform; shooting a current image of the sample; determining an intersection angle θ between the sample and a moving direction of the sample platform; adjusting a position of a scanning light spot of a colorimeter according to the angle θ, so that the sample coincides with the moving direction of the sample platform; using the colorimeter to scan the measured sample. By implementing the colorimeter measurement method and the colorimeter of the present application, the sample can be placed optionally when it is measured. Specially, when a design value of a measured sample is approximately equal to a size of the measuring light spot, much time can be saved and manpower waste is avoided.

Abstract: With the development of LED industry, chroma correction is becoming more and more attention, the most important thing is to get highest precise chroma value. Based on principle colorimeter can divided into spectroradiometer spectrophotometer and Tristimulus values colorimeter. The tristimulus filter-type colorimeters are the most widely used for imaging applications. Many studies have been conducted on how to calibrate tristimulus filter-type colorimeters, but the results are alwaysstrongly related to the calibration conditions and the target stimulus, system stability and repeatability is insufficient. In this paper we show how filters influenced filter-type colorimeters accuracy and analyze the error of RGB color industrial camera pixel-level correction.
