TL;DR: In this paper, the magnetic attractive forces pull the camera part firmly to the base part, thereby securely positioning and orienting the camera, however, the camera may be readily repositioned by pushing the camera into a new position.
Abstract: A magnetic mount is provided for easily mounting, positioning, and orienting a camera, sensor or other directionally sensitive electronic device. In one example the magnetic mount is a camera mount. The camera mount has a camera part that has an image sensor, electronics, battery, and communication components. The housing for the camera part has a generally concave mounting surface, with a magnet positioned inside the camera housing and adjacent to the camera mounting surface. A base part has a base mounting surface that is constructed to be attracted to the magnet. In one example, the base mounting surface is dome-shaped, with a convex curvature constructed to mate with the concave curvature of the camera mounting surface. The base part is mounted to a stable support, and the camera mounting surface brought near the base counting surface. The magnetic attractive forces pull the camera part firmly to the base part, thereby securely positioning and orienting the camera. However, the camera may be readily repositioned by pushing the camera into a new position. The size and shape of the complementary mounting surfaces may be selected according to positioning requirements.

TL;DR: Pyridine-containing tripods exhibited the highest NO(3)(-) anion-selective luminescence and thus permit naked-eye detection of the NO( 3)(-)Anion, and the particular combination of tripod and a luminescent Eu(3+) center gave anions- Selective Luminescence enhancements.
Abstract: A new series of tripods were designed to form anion-responsive, luminescent lanthanide complexes. These tripods contain pyridine, thiazole, pyrazine, or quinoline chromophores combined with amide carbonyl oxygen and tertiary nitrogen atoms. Crystallographic and EXAFS studies of the 10-coordinated tripod-La(NO(3))(3) complexes revealed that each La(3+) cation was cooperatively coordinated by one tetradentate tripod and three bidentate NO(3)(-) anions in the crystal and in CH(3)CN. Quantum chemical calculations indicated that the aromatic nitrogen plays a significant role in lanthanide complexation. The experimentally determined stability constants of complexes of the tripod with La(NO(3))(3), Eu(NO(3))(3), and Tb(NO(3))(3) were in good agreement with the theoretically calculated interaction energies. Complexation of each tripod with lanthanide triflate gave a mixture of several lanthanide complex species. Interestingly, the addition of a coordinative NO(3)(-) or Cl(-) anion to the mixture significantly influenced the lanthanide complexation profiles. The particular combination of tripod and a luminescent Eu(3+) center gave anion-selective luminescence enhancements. Pyridine-containing tripods exhibited the highest NO(3)(-) anion-selective luminescence and thus permit naked-eye detection of the NO(3)(-) anion.

TL;DR: In this article, measurements and models of axial force produced by a tripod joint of an automotive drive-shaft were derived from a gauge extensometry sensor placed on an industrial test bench.
Abstract: The present paper deals with measurements and models of axial force produced by a tripod joint of an automotive drive-shaft. An automotive drive-shaft consists of a plunging tripod joint close to the gearbox and a fixed ball joint close to the wheel. Both joints are connected by an intermediate shaft. The measurements of axial force are derived from a gauge extensometry sensor placed on an industrial test bench. The ball joint is modeled as a true and perfect spherical link. For the tripod joint, the rollers between the tripod and the tulip ramps are introduced in such a way that their orientation is taken in account. Then, two inverse models are proposed with a constant input velocity and a constant output torque. To start with, an analytical model is proposed; then a more sophisticated model using Adams software is introduced. It is shown that both models are coherent and in good agreement with experimental measurements of axial forces. Since axial forces generate nuisance vibration harshness with shudder in particular, models are used to predict shudder excitation dependence on tulip radius, input torque, shaft rotation speed and Coulomb friction. Finally, the Coulomb friction coefficient is identified in the models.

TL;DR: The concept of expanding rubber bung as discussed by the authors is similar to the pivoting metal Christmas tree, except that a hard material pivots out, to clamp the sides of the hole, once it has been easily inserted in its collapsed state.
Abstract: Most cameras have a tripod mounting hole in the bottom with a standard screw thread. All current tripods mount use a threaded fastener that screws into this hole and tightens the camera to a tripod or other auxiliary devices. Often, the tripod will mount a small intermediary part that can remain with the camera, but which allows the camera to be quickly removed from the tripod. This disclosure obviates the need for the intermediary part. Here are some of the main features and embodiments: 'Expanding Rubber Bung': A flexible elastomeric part or other material, that when tightened, expands in girth. 'Pivoting metal Christmas tree': Similar to the above concept, except that a hard material pivots out, to clamp the sides of the hole, once it has been easily inserted in its collapsed state. The following are some of the applications and examples of the current disclosure: cameras, video recorders, civil engineering equipment for leveling measurement or surveying, laser equipment for tracking, leveling calibration, or marking, optical equipment, astronomical equipment, telescopes, binoculars, lab equipment, or calibration equipment are some examples of tripod usage or similar setups, e.g. setups with more legs, different shapes, stands, supports, or foldable/ mobile setups. Many other variations and extensions are also discussed in the specification and figures.

TL;DR: Harmonic vibrational frequencies computed at the B3LYP/6-311+g** level of theory for the mercaptoethanol tripod SAM closely match the experimental IRS spectra, giving further support for the tripod structure.
Abstract: Infrared reflection spectroscopy (IRS), single wavelength ellipsometry, and density functional theory were used to elucidate the structure of a molecular tripod self-assembled monolayer (SAM) on polycrystalline gold{111} substrates. The tripod SAM was formed by the reaction of SiCl4 with a densely packed monolayer of 2-mercaptoethanol, 6-mercaptohexanol, and 16-mercaptohexadecanol under inert atmosphere. After reaction with SiCl4, IRS spectra show an intense absorption at approximately 1112 cm(-1) that is attributed to Si-O-C asymmetric stretching vibration of a molecular tripod structure. Harmonic vibrational frequencies computed at the B3LYP/6-311+g** level of theory for the mercaptoethanol tripod SAM closely match the experimental IRS spectra, giving further support for the tripod structure. When rinsed with methanol or water, the Si-Cl-terminated SAM becomes capped with Si-OMe or Si-OH. The silanol-terminated tripod SAM is expected to find use in the preparation of thin zeolite and silica films on gold substrates.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a mounting clip with a bubble level or other device to allow the user to level the item supported by the clip, such as a camera or a monopod.
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a mounting clips and structures to support the mounting clips. The mounting clips may use a bubble level or other device to allow the user to level the item supported, such as a camera. The mounting clips may be used with a tripod or a monopod, and in some embodiments a tripod with flexible legs utilizing ball and socket joint connectors which, when interconnected, form a flexible assembly. The use of flexible mounting apparatus allows the user to mount an item such as a camera in a variety of locations, but this in turn may make it difficult for the user to level the view from the camera. A clip with a level device within it allows for such leveling.

Abstract: In this chapter, a new polishing/deburring machine developed at Ryerson University is presented. This machine consists of two subsystems. The first subsystem is a five-axis machine for tool/part motion control. The second subsystem is a compliant toolhead for tool force control. Both subsystems are designed based on the tripod principle. For motion control, a motion planning software package is developed that includes axis motion planning based on the tripod inverse kinematics; and tool motion simulation and part profile measurement based on the tripod forward kinematics. For force control, a parameter planning method is developed for planning tool pressure and tool spindle air flow rate according to the part geometry, based on the Hertzian contact model. A force control method is also developed that utilises the active compliance toolhead to deal with the parts with large geometry deviations. Two test examples are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the developed machine.

Abstract: This paper focuses on the nonlinear modeling of a tripod type parallel manipulator and the stabilization controller design for base disturbance attenuation. The active tripod is designed to isolate a delicate device, carried by a host vehicle, from the disturbing vibrations coming from the chassis of this host vehicle. For that purpose, a controller is designed and the tripod is used for vibration attenuation as an active suspension system. A detailed simulation model including the nonlinear model of the tripod type parallel manipulator, the models of the stabilization controller, the linear actuators, i.e. the legs of the tripod, the inertial sensors, i.e. the inertial navigation system (INS) on the active platform, and the linear encoder integrated between the moving and stationary parts of the tripod are built and used in the study. This simulation model is used to evaluate the performance of the designed controller for the real-time data acquisition from an INS, which is mounted on the vehicle chassis, during a rough off-road cruise of the host vehicle. The data gathered from the vehicle is fed through the simulation model and the performance of the designed controller is examined and discussed under the real conditions of the desired application.
