Spin-transfer torque generated by a topological insulator

TL;DR: In this article, it was shown that charge current flowing in-plane in a thin film of the topological insulator bismuth selenide (Bi2Se3) at room temperature can indeed exert a strong spin-transfer torque on an adjacent ferromagnetic permalloy (Ni81Fe19) thin film, with a direction consistent with that expected from the topologically surface state.
Journal ArticleDOI

Room-Temperature Spin-Orbit Torque Switching Induced by a Topological Insulator.

TL;DR: In this paper, the spin-orbit torque switching in a TI-ferrimagnet heterostructure with perpendicular magnetic anisotropy at room temperature was investigated and the obtained effective spin Hall angle of TI was substantially larger than the previously studied heavy metals.
Journal ArticleDOI

Surface-State-Dominated Spin-Charge Current Conversion in Topological-Insulator-Ferromagnetic-Insulator Heterostructures.

TL;DR: It is shown that the spin-charge conversion efficiency, characterized by the inverse Rashba-Edelstein effect length (λ_{IREE}), increases dramatically as the film thickness is increased from two quintuple layers, saturating above six quint triple layers, suggesting a dominant role of surface states in spin and charge interconversion in topological-insulator-ferromagnet heterostructures.
