This study aimed to understand the defence mechanism among China international student to handle the stress and anxiety due to language barriers in one of the Malaysia local university. The research methodology utilised in this research was the qualitative approach; five China international students participated in this research through purposive sampling and interviews were carried out. The interview session was audio recorded with the consent of the participants. Steps taken to ensure the trustworthiness of the study, include member checking, peer-reviewing, being sensitive to ethical practice and appropriate arrangement of data collection. The findings of this study revealed the language barriers are difficulties in academic, poor English, differences in local accents and emotional states. Three defence mechanisms investigated which is denial, projection and identification. The teaching profession has been consistently ranked as the most stressful job in the world today. Teachers who experience prolonged exposure to high levels of work-related stress can find there to be a detrimental effect on their physical health, mental health, social life, and work performance. This study aims to characterise the mental health and wellbeing of secondary school teachers in Malaysia according to gender and age group. We examined burnout levels among 776 secondary school teachers who were measured across three dimensions (i.e., depersonalisation, emotional exhaustion, and personal accomplishment), as well as their sources of stress, manifestations of stress, and psychological symptoms. The quantitative data analysis revealed that most of the teachers had experienced burnout in terms of their personal accomplishments, work-related stressors, and time management, and that it mostly manifested as fatigue. Overall, the sample of secondary school teachers in Malaysia indicates a risk of poor mental health. Further psychological interventions and self-care programs are suggested to help secondary school teachers cope with the early signs of burnout.

Apart from that, semi-structured interviews as well as open question survey were administered in selected teacher training institutions. Based on the analysis of data, provisional guiding principles were proposed to be considered by any teacher education institution in designing their curriculum framework in order to produce quality teacher for the future.

Comparative Analysis of Teacher Clinical Experience Guiding Principles in Selected Teacher Training Institutions Around the World

Teacher self-efficacy (TSE) in drug education is critical because it is linked to teachers’ beliefs and ability to deliver learning material about drug abuse to students. There is scant literature about TSE in drug education. This might be due to the lack of valid instruments measuring TSE in drug education. This study aimed to validate and test the TSE Scale among secondary school teachers in drug education. The TSE Scale was adapted from the instrument of teacher efficacy by Tschannen-Moran and Hoy (2001). One hundred and thirteen public secondary school teachers in Johor, Malaysia were involved in this quantitative study. Cronbach’s alpha was used to examine the internal consistency and factor analysis through factor loading to confirm the items in each construct. The results reveal that the scale has internal consistency, with a Cronbach alpha value greater than .7. Furthermore, the factor loading results confirm the structure of the instrument, where each item had a factor loading greater than .5 and was loaded in each construct. Therefore, the TSE Scale is a valid tool to measure secondary school teacher self-efficacy in drug education. The instrument can be used in studies related to drug prevention activities in secondary schools.

Validating and Testing the Teacher Self-Efficacy (TSE) Scale in Drug Education among Secondary School Teachers

Implementation of biofloc technology (BFT) system in aquaculture industry shows high productivity, low feed conversion ratio, and an optimum culture environment. This study was divided into two phases. The first phase involved maintaining the water quality using the optimum carbon-to-nitrogen ratio by manipulating pH in culture water. The second phase examined the performance of harvesting biofloc (remaining phytoplankton and suspended solids in the system) using chicken eggshell powder (CESP). This study showed that pH 7 to 8 were the best biofloc performance with high removal percentage of ammonia (>99%) with a remaining ammonia concentration of 0.016 mg L−1 and 0.018 mg L−1 , respectively. The second phase of this study was performed to determine the optimal formulation and conditions of using CESP as a bio-flocculant in harvesting excess biofloc. The use of eggshell showed a higher harvesting efficiency of more than 80% under the following treatment conditions: 0.25 g L−1 of eggshell dosage; with rapid and slow mixing rates of 150 and 30 rpm, respectively; 30 min of settling time; settling velocity of 0.39 mm s−1 and pH of 6 to 7. Therefore, the results indicated that biofloc would be the best green technology approach for sustainable aquaculture wastewater and the CESP is an organic matrix that environmental-friendly bio-coagulant for biofloc harvesting.
