Journal ArticleDOI
Acyl-CoA synthetase 3 promotes lipid droplet biogenesis in ER microdomains
Adam Kassan,Albert Herms,Andrea Fernández-Vidal,Marta Bosch,Nicole L. Schieber,Babu J.N. Reddy,Alba Fajardo,Mariona Gelabert-Baldrich,Francesc Tebar,Carlos Enrich,Steven P. Gross,Robert G. Parton,Albert Pol,Albert Pol +13 more
TL;DR: Acyl-CoA synthetase 3 is recruited early to lipid droplet assembly sites on the ER, where it is required for efficient lipid droplets nucleation and lipid storage.
Journal ArticleDOI
AMPK activation promotes lipid droplet dispersion on detyrosinated microtubules to increase mitochondrial fatty acid oxidation
Albert Herms,Marta Bosch,Babu J.N. Reddy,Nicole L. Schieber,Alba Fajardo,Celia Rupérez,Andrea Fernández-Vidal,Charles Ferguson,Carles Rentero,Francesc Tebar,Carlos Enrich,Robert G. Parton,Steven P. Gross,Albert Pol +13 more
TL;DR: The existence of a specialized cellular network connecting the cellular energetic status and MT dynamics to coordinate the functioning of LDs and mitochondria during nutrient scarcity is described.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mammalian lipid droplets are innate immune hubs integrating cell metabolism and host defense
Marta Bosch,Miguel Sánchez-Álvarez,Alba Fajardo,Ronan Kapetanovic,Bernhard Steiner,Filipe Dutra,Luciana Novaes Moreira,Juan Antonio López,Rocío Campo,Montserrat Marí,Frederic Morales-Paytuvi,Olivia Tort,Albert Gubern,Rachel Templin,James E. B. Curson,Nick Martel,Cristina Català,Francisco Lozano,Francesc Tebar,Carlos Enrich,Jesús Vázquez,Miguel A. del Pozo,Matthew J. Sweet,Patrícia T. Bozza,Steven P. Gross,Robert G. Parton,Albert Pol,Albert Pol +27 more
TL;DR: It is shown that mammalian LDs are endowed with a protein-mediated antimicrobial capacity, which is up-regulated during polymicrobial sepsis and by LPS, and may potentially be advantageous for organizing an intracellular host defense.
Journal ArticleDOI
Caveolin-1 deficiency causes cholesterol dependent mitochondrial dysfunction and apoptotic susceptibility
Marta Bosch,Montserrat Marí,Albert Herms,Ana M. Fernandez,Alba Fajardo,Adam Kassan,Albert Giralt,Anna Colell,David Balgoma,Elisabet Barbero,Elena González-Moreno,Nuria Matías,Francesc Tebar,Jesús Balsinde,Marta Camps,Carlos Enrich,Steven P. Gross,Carmen García-Ruiz,Esther Pérez-Navarro,José C. Fernández-Checa,José C. Fernández-Checa,Albert Pol +21 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that impaired proliferation and low survival with glucose restriction is a shortcoming of CAV1-deficient cells caused by impaired mitochondrial function, and it is confirmed that this mitochondrial dysfunction predisposes CAv1- deficient animals to mitochondrial-related diseases such as steatohepatitis and neurodegeneration.
Journal ArticleDOI
Cell to cell heterogeneity in lipid droplets suggests a mechanism to reduce lipotoxicity
Albert Herms,Marta Bosch,Nicholas Ariotti,Babu J.N. Reddy,Alba Fajardo,Andrea Fernández-Vidal,Anna Alvarez-Guaita,Manuel A. Fernandez-Rojo,Carles Rentero,Francesc Tebar,Carlos Enrich,María-Isabel Geli,Robert G. Parton,Steven P. Gross,Albert Pol,Albert Pol +15 more
TL;DR: It is proposed that fat storage compartmentalization within a cell population is a protective social organization to reduce lipotoxicity and reduces the risk of lipot toxicity to the population without impairing overall lipid homeostasis.
