Comparison of a Whole-Blood Interferon γ Assay With Tuberculin Skin Testing for Detecting Latent Mycobacterium tuberculosis Infection
Gerald H. Mazurek,Philip A. LoBue,Philip A. LoBue,Charles L. Daley,John Bernardo,Alfred Lardizabal,William R. Bishai,Michael F. Iademarco,James S. Rothel +8 more
TL;DR: For all study participants, as well as for those being screened forLTBI, the IFN-gamma assay was comparable with the TST in its ability to detect LTBI, was less affected by BCG vaccination, discriminated responses due to nontuberculous mycobacteria, and avoided variability and subjectivity associated with placing and reading the T ST.
Journal ArticleDOI
Treatment of Drug-Resistant Tuberculosis. An Official ATS/CDC/ERS/IDSA Clinical Practice Guideline
Payam Nahid,Sundari Mase,Giovanni Battista Migliori,Giovanni Sotgiu,Graham H. Bothamley,Jan Brozek,Adithya Cattamanchi,J. Peter Cegielski,Lisa Chen,Charles L. Daley,Tracy Dalton,Raquel Duarte,Federica Fregonese,C. Robert Horsburgh,Faiz Ahmad Khan,Fayez Kheir,Zhiyi Lan,Alfred Lardizabal,Michael Lauzardo,Joan M. Mangan,Suzanne M. Marks,Lindsay McKenna,Dick Menzies,Carole D. Mitnick,Diana M. Nilsen,Farah Parvez,Charles A. Peloquin,Ann Raftery,H. Simon Schaaf,Neha Shah,Jeffrey R. Starke,John W. Wilson,Jonathan M. Wortham,Terence Chorba,Barbara Seaworth +34 more
TL;DR: New recommendations are made for the choice and number of drugs in a regimen, the duration of intensive and continuation phases, and the role of injectable drugs for MDR-TB.
Journal ArticleDOI
Enhancement of Treatment Completion for Latent Tuberculosis Infection With 4 Months of Rifampin
Alfred Lardizabal,Marian R. Passannante,Faysal Kojakali,Christopher H. Hayden,Lee B. Reichman +4 more
TL;DR: Patients receiving 4R were significantly more likely to complete therapy than those receiving 9H, and employment was negatively associated with treatment completion in the same model.
Journal ArticleDOI
Prospective Comparison of the Tuberculin Skin Test and 2 Whole-Blood Interferon-γ Release Assays in Persons with Suspected Tuberculosis
Gerald H. Mazurek,Gerald H. Mazurek,Stephen E. Weis,Patrick K. Moonan,Patrick K. Moonan,Charles L. Daley,John Bernardo,Alfred Lardizabal,Randall Reves,Sean R. Toney,Laura J. Daniels,Philip A. LoBue +11 more
TL;DR: The TST, QFT, and QFT-G have similar sensitivity in persons with culture-confirmed infection and negative QFT and Q FT-G results should not be used to exclude the diagnosis of tuberculosis in people with suggestive signs or symptoms.
Journal ArticleDOI
Multiple Cytokines Are Released When Blood from Patients with Tuberculosis Is Stimulated with Mycobacterium tuberculosis Antigens
Kathryn L. Kellar,Jennifer Gehrke,Stephen E. Weis,Aida Mahmutovic-Mayhew,Aida Mahmutovic-Mayhew,Blachy Davila,Margan J. Zajdowicz,Robin T. Scarborough,Philip A. LoBue,Alfred Lardizabal,Charles L. Daley,Randall Reves,John Bernardo,Brandon H. Campbell,William C. Whitworth,Gerald H. Mazurek +15 more
TL;DR: Measurement of multiple cytokine responses may improve diagnostic sensitivity for Mtb infection compared with assessment of IFN-γ alone, as measured by three different multiplexed immunoassays.
