Journal ArticleDOI
Repair of incisional hernias with biological prosthesis: a systematic review of current evidence.
TL;DR: There is an insufficient level of high-quality evidence in the literature on the value of bioprosthetics for incisional hernia repair, and Randomized controlled trials that use standardized reporting comparing biOProsthetics with synthetic mesh for incisonal hernian repair are needed.
Journal ArticleDOI
A multi-institutional analysis of prehospital tourniquet use.
Rebecca Schroll,Alison Smith,Norman E. McSwain,John G. Myers,Kristin Rocchi,Kenji Inaba,Stefano Siboni,Gary Vercruysse,Irada Ibrahim-Zada,Jason L. Sperry,Christian Martin-Gill,Jeremy W. TL;DR: This study is the largest evaluation of prehospital tourniquet use in a civilian population to date and found that tournique was applied safely and effectively in the civilian population.
Journal ArticleDOI
Prehospital tourniquet use in penetrating extremity trauma: Decreased blood transfusions and limb complications.
Alison Smith,Joana E. Ochoa,Sunnie Wong,Sydney Beatty,Jeffrey M. Elder,Chrissy Guidry,Patrick McGrew,Clifton McGinness,Juan Duchesne,Rebecca Schroll +9 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that prehospital tourniquet use could be safely used to control bleeding in major extremity penetrating trauma with no increased risk of major complications and may lead to improved long-term outcomes and increased survival in trauma patients.
Journal ArticleDOI
Endogenous S-nitrosoglutathione modifies 5-lipoxygenase expression in airway epithelial cells.
Khalequz Zaman,Marie H. Hanigan,Alison Smith,John W. Vaughan,Timothy L. Macdonald,David R. Jones,John F. Hunt,Benjamin Gaston +7 more
TL;DR: The data demonstrate that GSNO levels5microM suppresses 5- LO expression, suggesting thatGSNO might inhibit 5-lo expression in the clinical setting.
Journal ArticleDOI
Stop the Bleed Training: Rescuer Skills, Knowledge, and Attitudes of Hemorrhage Control Techniques
Rebecca Schroll,Alison Smith,Morgan S. Martin,Tyler Zeoli,Marcus Hoof,Juan Duchesne,Patrick Greiffenstein,Jennifer Avegno +7 more
TL;DR: This study provides quantitative evidence that Stop the Bleed training is effective, with both LRs and MRs demonstrating improved confidence and skill proficiency after a 1-h course.
