Journal ArticleDOI

The acute promyelocytic leukemia-specific PML-RARα fusion protein inhibits differentiation and promotes survival of myeloid precursor cells

TL;DR: Expressing the PML-RAR alpha protein in U937 myeloid precursor cells showed that they lost the capacity to differentiate under the action of different stimuli, acquired enhanced sensitivity to retinoic acid, and exhibited a higher growth rate consequent to diminished apoptotic cell death.
Journal Article

Heterogeneous nuclear expression of the promyelocytic leukemia (PML) protein in normal and neoplastic human tissues.

TL;DR: It is found that PML is frequently overexpressed in Hodgkin and Reed-Sternberg cells of Hodgkin's disease, a tumor of cytokine-producing cells, and among solid tumors, overexpression of PML was frequently found in carcinomas of larynx and thyroid (papillary), epithelial thymomas, and Kaposi's sarcoma.
Journal ArticleDOI

Cooperation between the RING + B1-B2 and coiled-coil domains of PML is necessary for its effects on cell survival

TL;DR: Results indicate that PML is involved in cell survival regulation and that the PML component of the fusion protein retains intact biological activity, thereby suggesting that the effects of PML/RARα on survival derive from the activation of the incorporated PML sequence.
Journal ArticleDOI

Natural killer cell-mediated lysis of autologous cells modified by gene therapy.

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that NK cells can selectively detect the expression of heterologous genes, and this observations provide a general model of the NK cell–mediated control of viral infections.
