Journal ArticleDOI

The acute promyelocytic leukemia-specific PML-RARα fusion protein inhibits differentiation and promotes survival of myeloid precursor cells

TL;DR: Expressing the PML-RAR alpha protein in U937 myeloid precursor cells showed that they lost the capacity to differentiate under the action of different stimuli, acquired enhanced sensitivity to retinoic acid, and exhibited a higher growth rate consequent to diminished apoptotic cell death.
Journal ArticleDOI

A PMLRARα transgene initiates murine acute promyelocytic leukemia

TL;DR: The transgenic mice described here provide an apparently accurate model for human APL that includes clear evidence of tumor progression and should be useful for exploring the molecular pathogenesis of APL and the mechanisms of the therapeutic response to retinoic acid.
