Journal ArticleDOI
Spatial differentiation in the vegetative mycelium of Aspergillus niger.
Ana M. Levin,Ronald P. de Vries,Ana Conesa,Charissa de Bekker,Manuel Talon,Hildegard Henna Menke,Noël Nicolaas Maria Elisabeth Van Peij,Han A. B. Wösten +7 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that the mycelia of 7-day-old colonies of A. niger are highly differentiated, indicated by the fact that distinct zones of the colony grow and secrete proteins, even after transfer to fresh medium.
Journal ArticleDOI
Aspergillus oryzae in solid-state and submerged fermentations Progress report on a multi-disciplinary project
Rob te Biesebeke,George J. G. Ruijter,Yovita S.P. Rahardjo,Marisca J Hoogschagen,Margreet Heerikhuisen,Ana M. Levin,Kenneth G A van Driel,Maarten A.I. Schutyser,Jan Dijksterhuis,Yang Zhu,F.J. Weber,Willem M. de Vos,Kees A M J J van den Hondel,Arjen Rinzema,Peter J. Punt +14 more
TL;DR: The molecular and physiological aspects of the fungus in submerged fermentation (SmF) and SSF are compared and a number of differences correlated with the different growth conditions are observed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Deletion of flbA results in increased secretome complexity and reduced secretion heterogeneity in colonies of Aspergillus niger
Pauline Krijgsheld,Benjamin M. Nitsche,Harm Post,Ana M. Levin,Wally H. Müller,Albert J. R. Heck,Arthur F. J. Ram,A.F.M. Altelaar,Han A. B. Wösten +8 more
TL;DR: Taken together, inactivation of flbA results in spatial changes in secretion and in a more complex secretome, which may be explained by the fact that strain ΔflbA has a thinner cell wall compared to the wild type, enabling efficient release of proteins.
Journal ArticleDOI
Localization of protein secretion in fungal colonies using a novel culturing technique; the ring-plate system.
TL;DR: A novel culturing technique, called the ring-plate system, which enables simultaneous monitoring of environmental conditions and secretion in different parts of the fungal colony.
Proceedings ArticleDOI
Enforcing Conceptual Modeling to improve the understanding of human genome
Oscar Pastor,Ana M. Levin,Juan Carlos Casamayor,Matilde Celma,Luis E. Eraso,Maria Jose Villanueva,Manuel Pérez-Alonso +6 more
TL;DR: The relevant biological concepts should be properly addressed through the creation of the corresponding conceptual schema, which will improve the description of the global process followed from a DNA sequence to a fully functional protein.
