Journal ArticleDOI
Age-associated distribution of normal B-cell and plasma cell subsets in peripheral blood
Elena Blanco,Martin Perez-Andres,Sonia Arriba-Méndez,Teresa Contreras-Sanfeliciano,Ignacio Criado,Ondrej Pelak,Ana Serra-Caetano,Alfonso Romero,Noemi Puig,Ana Remesal,Juan Torres Canizales,Eduardo López-Granados,Tomas Kalina,Ana E. Sousa,Menno C. van Zelm,Mirjam van der Burg,Jacques J.M. van Dongen,Alberto Orfao +17 more
TL;DR: IgH isotypes from different IGHC gene blocks show different patterns, probably reflecting consecutive cycles of IgH isotype switch recombination through life, and maximum plasma levels were reached after PC and MBC counts peaked.
Journal ArticleDOI
IL-7 sustains CD31 expression in human naive CD4+ T cells and preferentially expands the CD31+ subset in a PI3K-dependent manner
Rita I. Azevedo,Maria V. D. Soares,João T. Barata,Rita Tendeiro,Ana Serra-Caetano,Rui M. M. Victorino,Ana E. Sousa +6 more
TL;DR: Evidence that IL-7 exerts a preferential proliferative effect on CD31(+) naive CD4(+) T cells from adult peripheral blood compared with theCD31(-) subset is provided and it is suggested that during adulthood CD31 (+) naive T cells are maintained by IL-6 and thatIL-7-based therapies may exert a preferential effect on this population.
Journal ArticleDOI
Adult B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia cells display decreased PTEN activity and constitutive hyperactivation of PI3K/Akt pathway despite high PTEN protein levels
A. Margarida Gomes,Maria V. D. Soares,Patrícia Ribeiro,Joana Caldas,Vanda Póvoa,Leila R. Martins,Alice Melão,Ana Serra-Caetano,Aida Botelho de Sousa,João F. Lacerda,João T. Barata +10 more
TL;DR: It is found that adult B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia samples show significantly higher CK2 kinase activity and lower PTEN lipid phosphatase activity than healthy controls, and it is suggested that CK2 inhibition may constitute a valid, novel therapeutic tool in this malignancy.
Journal ArticleDOI
Defects in memory B-cell and plasma cell subsets expressing different immunoglobulin-subclasses in patients with CVID and immunoglobulin subclass deficiencies
Elena Blanco,Elena Blanco,Martin Perez-Andres,Martin Perez-Andres,Sonia Arriba-Méndez,Cristina Serrano,Ignacio Criado,Ignacio Criado,Lucía del Pino-Molina,Susana L. Silva,Ignacio Madruga,Marina Bakardjieva,Catarina Martins,Ana Serra-Caetano,Alfonso Romero,Teresa Contreras-Sanfeliciano,Carolien Bonroy,Francisco González Sala,Alejandro Martín,José María Bastida,F. Lorente,Carlos Prieto,Ignacio Dávila,Miguel Marcos,Tomas Kalina,Marcela Vlková,Zita Chovancová,Ana Cordeiro,Jan Philippé,Filomeen Haerynck,Eduardo López-Granados,Ana E. Sousa,Mirjam van der Burg,Mirjam van der Burg,Jacques J.M. van Dongen,Alberto Orfao,Alberto Orfao +36 more
TL;DR: Investigation of patients with PADs for the distribution of 41 blood B-cell and plasma cell (PC) subsets, including subsets defined by expression of distinct immunoglobulin heavy chain subclasses identified distinct PAD defective B- cell patterns that are associated with unique clinical profiles.
Journal ArticleDOI
Quantification of cell cycle kinetics by EdU (5-ethynyl-2′-deoxyuridine)-coupled-fluorescence-intensity analysis
Pedro Pereira,Ana Serra-Caetano,Marisa Cabrita,Evguenia Bekman,José Braga,José Pedro Rino,René Santus,Paulo Filipe,Ana E. Sousa,João A. Ferreira +9 more
TL;DR: It is shown that by pulsing cells with EdU for incremental periods of time maximal EdU-coupled fluorescence is reached when pulsing times match the length of S phase, and these parameters can be estimated within a time frame that is shorter than a full cell cycle.
