The Computational 2D Materials Database: high-throughput modeling and discovery of atomically thin crystals
Sten Haastrup,Mikkel Strange,Mohnish Pandey,Thorsten Deilmann,Per Simmendefeldt Schmidt,N. F. Hinsche,Morten Niklas Gjerding,Daniele Torelli,Peter Mahler Larsen,Anders C. Riis-Jensen,Jakob Gath,Karsten Wedel Jacobsen,Jens Jørgen Mortensen,Thomas Olsen,Kristian Sommer Thygesen +14 more
TL;DR: The Computational 2D Materials Database (C2DB) as discussed by the authors is a large-scale database of 2D materials and van der Waals heterostructures, including tens of thousands of materials.

Engineering covalently bonded 2D layered materials by self-intercalation.
Xiaoxu Zhao,Peng Song,Chengcai Wang,Anders C. Riis-Jensen,Wei Fu,Ya Deng,Dongyang Wan,Lixing Kang,Shoucong Ning,Jiadong Dan,Thirumalai Venkatesan,Zheng Liu,Wu Zhou,Kristian Sommer Thygesen,Xin Luo,Stephen J. Pennycook,Kian Ping Loh +16 more
TL;DR: It is shown that the self-intercalation of native atoms 11, 12 into bilayer transition metal dichalcogenides during growth generates a class of ultrathin, covalently bonded materials, which is named ic-2D, which can be grown under metal-rich conditions.
Journal ArticleDOI
High oscillator strength interlayer excitons in two-dimensional heterostructures for mid-infrared photodetection.
Steven Lukman,Lu Ding,Lei Xu,Ye Tao,Anders C. Riis-Jensen,Gang Zhang,Qing Yang Steve Wu,Ming Yang,Ming Yang,Sheng Luo,Chuang-Han Hsu,Liang-Zi Yao,Gengchiau Liang,Hsin Lin,Yong-Wei Zhang,Kristian Sommer Thygesen,Qi Jie Wang,Yuan Ping Feng,Jinghua Teng +18 more
TL;DR: This work demonstrates infrared photodetection enabled by interlayer excitons generated between tungsten and hafnium disulfide, WS 2 /HfS 2 and postulates that the sizeable charge delocalization and ILE accumulation at the interface result in a greatly enhanced oscillator strength of the ILEs and a high responsivity of thePhotodetector.
Journal ArticleDOI
Classifying the Electronic and Optical Properties of Janus Monolayers
Anders C. Riis-Jensen,Thorsten Deilmann,Thorsten Deilmann,Thomas Olsen,Kristian Sommer Thygesen +4 more
TL;DR: This work expands the class of known Janus monolayers and points to several potentially synthesisable structures, which could be interesting candidates for valley- or opto-electronic applications, or for generating out-of-plane electric fields to control charge transfer, charge separation, or band alignments in van der Waals heterostructures.
