Journal ArticleDOI
Glycosylation, Disulfide Bond Formation, and the Presence of a WSXWS-Like Motif in the Orf Virus GIF Protein Are Critical for Maintaining the Integrity of Binding to Ovine Granulocyte-Macrophage Colony-Stimulating Factor and Interleukin-2
TL;DR: It is demonstrated here that many of the biochemical properties of mammalian GM- CSF receptors that are required for efficient binding of GM-CSF are also critical to the GIF protein for binding to ovine GM-SF, and that a sequence motif (WDPWV) was necessary for biological activity.
Journal ArticleDOI
A novel spliced gene in alcelaphine herpesvirus 1 encodes a glycoprotein which is secreted in vitro.
George C. Russell,Helen Todd,David Deane,Ann Percival,Mark P. Dagleish,David M. Haig,James P. Stewart +6 more
TL;DR: A novel spliced gene in two related macaviruses that is expressed in MCF lesions in infected cattle is identified and future work will determine its importance for the pathogenesis of disease.
Journal ArticleDOI
Identification of immuno-reactive capsid proteins of malignant catarrhal fever viruses
Kathryn Bartley,David Deane,Ann Percival,Inga Dry,Dawn M. Grant,Neil F. Inglis,Kevin McLean,Erin D. T. Manson,Lisa Imrie,David M. Haig,Felix Lankester,Felix Lankester,George C. Russell +12 more
TL;DR: Two polypeptides, the products of the ORF17.5 and ORF65 genes, were antigens recognised by antibodies from natural MCF cases or from AlHV-1 vaccinated cattle, and have potential as diagnostic and/or vaccine antIGens.
Journal ArticleDOI
Assessment of the rabbit as a wildlife reservoir of bovine viral diarrhea virus: serological analysis and generation of trans-placentally infected offspring
Dawn M. Grant,Mark P. Dagleish,Claudia Bachofen,Brian Boag,David Deane,Ann Percival,Ruth N. Zadoks,George C. Russell +7 more
TL;DR: The view that a wildlife reservoir of BVDV in rabbit poses a small but non-zero risk of re-infection for BVDVs-free cattle herds in the UK is supported.
Journal ArticleDOI
Introduced Canadian Eastern grey squirrels: squirrelpox virus surveillance and why nothing matters
