Journal ArticleDOI
Platelet Factor 4 Mediates Inflammation in Experimental Cerebral Malaria
Kalyan Srivastava,Ian A. Cockburn,Anne Marie Swaim,Laura E. Thompson,Abhai K. Tripathi,Craig A. Fletcher,Erin N. Shirk,Henry Sun,M. Anna Kowalska,Karen Fox-Talbot,David J. Sullivan,Fidel Zavala,Craig N. Morrell +12 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that Plasmodium-infected RBCs can directly activate platelets, and platelet-derived PF4 then contributes to immune activation and T cell trafficking as part of the pathogenesis of ECM.
Journal ArticleDOI
Glutamate mediates platelet activation through the AMPA receptor
Craig N. Morrell,Hui Sun,Masahiro Ikeda,Jean-Claude Béïque,Anne Marie Swaim,Emily Mason,Tanika V. Martin,Laura E. Thompson,Oguz Gozen,David Ampagoomian,Rolf Sprengel,Jeffrey D. Rothstein,Nauder Faraday,Richard L. Huganir,Charles J. Lowenstein +14 more
TL;DR: It is shown that activated platelets release glutamate, that platelets express AMPAR subunits, and that glutamate increases agonist-induced platelet activation, and suggest that the AMPA receptor is a novel antithrombotic target.
Journal ArticleDOI
Platelets an inflammatory force in transplantation
TL;DR: The interplay of platelets and the immune system in relation to transplantation is discussed, which could promote the replacement of donor parenchmal cells with recipient cells and contribute to vascuplopathy.
Journal ArticleDOI
In Vivo Platelet–Endothelial Cell Interactions in Response to Major Histocompatibility Complex Alloantibody
Craig N. Morrell,Kazunori Murata,Anne Marie Swaim,Emily Mason,Tanika V. Martin,Laura E. Thompson,Mathew Ballard,Karen Fox-Talbot,Barbara A. Wasowska,William M. Baldwin +9 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated using a skin transplant model that alloantibody indirectly induces platelet activation and rolling in vivo and that platelets recruit leukocytes to sites of alloantsibody deposition and sustain leukocyte–endothelial cell interactions in vivo.
Journal ArticleDOI
Platelet Kainate Receptor Signaling Promotes Thrombosis by Stimulating Cyclooxygenase Activation
Henry Sun,Anne Marie Swaim,Jesus Enrique Herrera,Diane M. Becker,Lewis C. Becker,Kalyan Srivastava,Kalyan Srivastava,Laura E. Thompson,Michelle R. Shero,Alita Perez-Tamayo,Bhoom Suktitipat,Rasika A. Mathias,Anis Contractor,Nauder Faraday,Craig N. Morrell,Craig N. Morrell +15 more
TL;DR: The data demonstrate that glutamate regulation of platelet activation is in part cyclooxygenase-dependent and suggest that the KAR is a novel antithrombotic target.
