Serum anti-Müllerian hormone levels remain high until late reproductive age and decrease during metformin therapy in women with polycystic ovary syndrome
Terhi Piltonen,Laure Morin-Papunen,Riitta Koivunen,Antti Perheentupa,Aimo Ruokonen,Juha S. Tapanainen +5 more
TL;DR: Serum AMH levels decreased with age both in healthy women and in women with PCOS, although they were always 2- to 3-fold higher and remained elevated until 40 years of age in PCOS subjects, and the measurement of AMH could be used as a tool to assess ovarian ageing.
Journal ArticleDOI
Serum HE4 concentration differentiates malignant ovarian tumours from ovarian endometriotic cysts
Kaisa Huhtinen,Pia Suvitie,Jukka Hiissa,J Junnila,Jutta Huvila,Harry Kujari,Marjaleena Setälä,Päivi Härkki,Jyrki Jalkanen,J. Fraser,Juha Mäkinen,Annika Auranen,Matti Poutanen,Antti Perheentupa,Antti Perheentupa +14 more
TL;DR: Taking together, measuring both HE4 and CA125 serum concentrations increases the accuracy of ovarian cancer diagnosis and provides valuable information to discriminate ovarian tumours from ovarian endometriotic cysts.
Journal ArticleDOI
A supersensitive immunofluorometric assay for rat luteinizing hormone
Anne-Maarit Haavisto,Kim Pettersson,M Bergendahl,Antti Perheentupa,J F Roser,Ilpo Huhtaniemi +5 more
TL;DR: An immunofluorometric assay (IFMA) for rat (r) LH, which is based on two monoclonal antibodies, one to bovine and the other to human LH, is developed, which means that only IFMA is able to provide meaningful measurements of suppressed levels of serum LH.
Journal ArticleDOI
Metformin Improves Pregnancy and Live-Birth Rates in Women with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS): A Multicenter, Double-Blind, Placebo-Controlled Randomized Trial
Laure Morin-Papunen,Anni S. Rantala,Leila Unkila-Kallio,Aila Tiitinen,Maritta Hippeläinen,Antti Perheentupa,Helena Tinkanen,Risto Bloigu,Katri Puukka,Aimo Ruokonen,Juha S. Tapanainen +10 more
TL;DR: Obese women especially seem to benefit from 3 months' pretreatment with metformin and its combination thereafter with routine ovulation induction in anovulatory infertility, which increased the chance of pregnancy 1.6 times.
Journal ArticleDOI
Varicocele Is Associated with Impaired Semen Quality and Reproductive Hormone Levels: A Study of 7035 Healthy Young Men from Six European Countries.
Jakob Damsgaard,Ulla Nordström Joensen,Elisabeth Carlsen,Juris Erenpreiss,Martin Blomberg Jensen,Martin Blomberg Jensen,Valentinas Matulevičius,Birute Zilaitiene,Inge A. Olesen,Antti Perheentupa,Margus Punab,Andrea Salzbrunn,Jorma Toppari,Helena E. Virtanen,Anders Juul,Niels E. Skakkebæk,Niels Jørgensen +16 more
TL;DR: The presence and increasing grade of varicocele is adversely associated with semen quality and reproductive hormone levels in young men from the general population.
