Occupant behavior modeling for building performance simulation: Current state and future challenges:
Da Yan,William O'Brien,Tianzhen Hong,Xiaohang Feng,H. Burak Gunay,Farhang Tahmasebi,Ardeshir Mahdavi +6 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the state-of-the-art research, current obstacles and future needs and directions for the following four-step iterative process: (1) occupant monitoring and data collection, (2) model development, (3) model evaluation, and (4) model implementation into building simulation tools.
Journal ArticleDOI
IEA EBC Annex 66: Definition and simulation of occupant behavior in buildings
TL;DR: The International Energy Agency (IEA) Energy in Buildings and Community (EBC) Programme Annex 66 has established a scientific methodological framework for occupant behavior research, including data collection, behavior model representation, modeling and evaluation approaches, and the integration of behavior modeling tools with building performance simulation programs as mentioned in this paper.
Journal ArticleDOI
Occupants' operation of lighting and shading systems in office buildings
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors describe an extensive empirical study of control-oriented user behaviour (as related to systems for lighting and shading) in a number of office buildings in Austria and shed light on the relationships between control actions and environmental conditions inside and outside buildings.
Journal ArticleDOI
Introducing IEA EBC annex 79: Key challenges and opportunities in the field of occupant-centric building design and operation
William O'Brien,Andreas Wagner,Marcel Schweiker,Marcel Schweiker,Ardeshir Mahdavi,Julia K. Day,Mikkel Baun Kjærgaard,Salvatore Carlucci,Bing Dong,Farhang Tahmasebi,Da Yan,Tianzhen Hong,H. Burak Gunay,Zoltan Nagy,Clayton Miller,Christiane Berger +15 more
TL;DR: The objective of this paper is to succinctly report on the leading research of the above topics and articulate the most pressing research needs – planned to be addressed by Annex 79 and beyond.
