Journal ArticleDOI
Occurrence of Extended Spectrum β-Lactamases, KPC-Type, and MCR-1.2-Producing Enterobacteriaceae from Wells, River Water, and Wastewater Treatment Plants in Oltrepò Pavese Area, Northern Italy.
Mariasofia Caltagirone,Elisabetta Nucleo,Melissa Spalla,Francesca Zara,Federica Novazzi,Vittoria Mattioni Marchetti,Aurora Piazza,Aurora Piazza,Ibrahim Bitar,Ibrahim Bitar,Marica De Cicco,Stefania Paolucci,Giorgio Pilla,Roberta Migliavacca,Laura Pagani +14 more
TL;DR: The results of the Oltrepò Pavese water compartment antibiotic-resistance contamination rates highlight the need to improve hygienic measures to reduce the load of discharged bacteria with emerging resistance mechanisms.
Journal ArticleDOI
Biological and structural characterization of the Mycobacterium smegmatis nitroreductase NfnB, and its role in benzothiazinone resistance.
Giulia Manina,Giulia Manina,Giulia Manina,Marco Bellinzoni,Maria Rosalia Pasca,João Neres,Anna Milano,Ana Luisa de Jesus Lopes Ribeiro,Ana Luisa de Jesus Lopes Ribeiro,Silvia Buroni,Henrieta Škovierová,Petronela Dianišková,Katarína Mikušová,Jozef Marák,Vadim Makarov,David Giganti,Ahmed Haouz,Anna Paola Lucarelli,Giulia Degiacomi,Aurora Piazza,Laurent R. Chiarelli,Edda De Rossi,Elena A. Salina,Stewart T. Cole,Pedro M. Alzari,Giovanna Riccardi +25 more
TL;DR: The identification and characterization of a novel resistance mechanism to BTZ in Mycobacterium smegmatis is described and the crystal structure of NfnB in complex with the essential cofactor flavin mononucleotide is reported, and it is shown that a common amino acid stretch between N fnB and DprE1 is likely to be essential for the interaction with BTZ.
Journal ArticleDOI
Epidemic Diffusion of OXA-23-Producing Acinetobacter baumannii Isolates in Italy: Results of the First Cross-Sectional Countrywide Survey
Luigi Principe,Aurora Piazza,Tommaso Giani,Silvia Bracco,Maria Sofia Caltagirone,Fabio Arena,Elisabetta Nucleo,Federica Tammaro,Gian Maria Rossolini,Laura Pagani,Francesco Luzzaro +10 more
TL;DR: OXA-23 enzymes have become the most prevalent carbapenemases and are now endemic in Italy, and molecular typing profiles showed the presence of international and national clonal lineages in Italy.
Journal ArticleDOI
Transcriptional analysis of ESAT-6 cluster 3 in Mycobacterium smegmatis
TL;DR: The results suggest that in M. smegmatis only IdeR-dependent regulation is retained, while zinc has no effect on gene expression, and cluster 3 induction in acid stress conditions strengthens the hypothesis that cluster 3 is expressed in the course of infection.
Journal ArticleDOI
Comparison of core-genome MLST, coreSNP and PFGE methods for Klebsiella pneumoniae cluster analysis.
Floriana Gona,Francesco Comandatore,Simone Battaglia,Aurora Piazza,Alberto Trovato,Giovanni Lorenzin,Paola Cichero,Anna Biancardi,Paola Nizzero,Matteo Moro,Daniela Maria Cirillo +10 more
TL;DR: Comparing the most frequently used Klebsiella pneumoniae typing methods showed that cgMLST and coreSNP are more discriminant than PFGE, and that both approaches are suitable for transmission analyses, and highlights the limits of cg MLST scheme genes for phylogenetic reconstructions.
