Journal ArticleDOI

Specific interaction of a purified transcription factor with an internal control region of 5S RNA genes

TL;DR: A factor necessary for the accurate transcription of cloned Xenopus 5S genes in vitro has been isolated from soluble extracts of X. laevis ovaries and the site of action has been investigated using the "footprinting" method of Galas and Schmitz (1978).
Journal ArticleDOI

The binding of a transcription factor to deletion mutants of a 5S ribosomal RNA gene

TL;DR: A transcription factor binds specifically to a region within the 5S ribosomal RNA gene that is known to be required for accurate initiation of transcription of the gene and can explain why deletions beyond the 5' border of the control region that are unable to initiate transcription can still compete for the transcription ofThe wild-type 5S RNA gene.
Journal ArticleDOI

Altered levels of a 5 S gene-specific transcription factor (TFIIIA) during oogenesis and embryonic development of Xenopus laevis.

TL;DR: Xenopus laevis oocytes contain a 38,000-Da protein which serves both as a 5 S gene-specific transcription initiation factor (TFIIIA) and to stabilize 5 S RNA in ribonucleoprotein complexes and a second antigenically related protein of about 40,000 Da is found in late stage embryos, liver tissues, and adult kidney cells.
Journal ArticleDOI

Multiple forms of DNA-dependent RNA polymerases in Xenopus laevis. Rapid purification and structural and immunological properties.

TL;DR: DNA-dependent RNA polymerases I, II, and III were isolated from Xenopus laevis ovaries and subjected to chromatography on heparin-Sepharose, DEAE-Sephadex, and phosphocellulose to produce purified RNA polymerase forms IA, IIA, and II in yields of 5 to 40%.
