Journal ArticleDOI
Production of Highly Monolayer Enriched Dispersions of Liquid-Exfoliated Nanosheets by Liquid Cascade Centrifugation
Claudia Backes,Beata M. Szydłowska,Andrew Harvey,Shengjun Yuan,Victor Vega-Mayoral,Ben R. Davies,Pei-Liang Zhao,Damien Hanlon,Elton J. G. Santos,Mikhail I. Katsnelson,Werner J. Blau,Christoph Gadermaier,Jonathan N. Coleman +12 more
TL;DR: Liquid processing techniques, based on iterative centrifugation cascades, can be designed to achieve either highly efficient nanosheet size-selection and/or monolayer enrichment to enrich liquid exfoliated WS2 dispersions.
Journal ArticleDOI
Ultrafast Nonlinear Excitation Dynamics of Black Phosphorus Nanosheets from Visible to Mid-Infrared
Kangpeng Wang,Beata M. Szydłowska,Gaozhong Wang,Xiaoyan Zhang,Jing Jing Wang,John J. Magan,Long Zhang,Jonathan N. Coleman,Jun Wang,Werner J. Blau +9 more
TL;DR: In a comparative study with graphene, it is found that black phosphorus has a faster carrier relaxation in near- and mid-infrared region and black phosphorus is also confirmed to be better as saturable absorber to MoS2 in infrared region.
Journal ArticleDOI
Equipartition of Energy Defines the Size-Thickness Relationship in Liquid-Exfoliated Nanosheets.
Claudia Backes,Davide Campi,Beata M. Szydłowska,Beata M. Szydłowska,Kevin Synnatschke,Ezgi Ojala,Farnia Rashvand,Andrew Harvey,Aideen Griffin,Zdenek Sofer,Nicola Marzari,Jonathan N. Coleman,David D. O'Regan +12 more
TL;DR: A simple nonequilibrium thermodynamics-based model predicting that the power-law prefactor is proportional to both the ratios of in-plane-tearing/out-of-plane -peeling energies and in- plane/out of-plane moduli supports the hypothesis that energy equipartition holds between nanosheet tearing and peeling during sonication-assisted exfoliation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Liquid Exfoliated Co(OH)2 Nanosheets as Low-Cost, Yet High-Performance, Catalysts for the Oxygen Evolution Reaction
David McAteer,Ian Godwin,Zheng Ling,Andrew Harvey,Lily He,Conor S. Boland,Victor Vega-Mayoral,Beata M. Szydłowska,Aurélie Rovetta,Claudia Backes,John B. Boland,Xin Chen,Michael E. G. Lyons,Jonathan N. Coleman +13 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used liquid exfoliated Co(OH)2 nanosheets as a model system and developed a simple procedure to maximise the activity of any OER nano-catalyst.
Journal ArticleDOI
Non-resonant light scattering in dispersions of 2D nanosheets.
Andrew Harvey,Claudia Backes,John B. Boland,Xiaoyun He,Aideen Griffin,Beata M. Szydłowska,Cian Gabbett,John F. Donegan,Jonathan N. Coleman +8 more
TL;DR: Non-resonant scattering in suspensions of wide-bandgap nanosheets is investigated, and a general model which allows the scattering spectra to be used as metrics for particle size in nanosheet dispersions is developed.
