Journal ArticleDOI

Nutrition, exercise and the immune system.

TL;DR: Given the fact that nutrition is a critical determinant of immunocompetence, the potential protective role of nutritional agents in exercise-induced immunosuppression will be discussed.
Journal ArticleDOI

A multisystem composite biomarker as a preliminary diagnostic test in bipolar disorder.

TL;DR: This work aimed to combine data from different molecular levels and tissues into a composite diagnostic and state biomarker for bipolar disorder.
Journal ArticleDOI

Angiogenin and Osteoprotegerin are type II muscle specific myokines protecting pancreatic beta-cells against proinflammatory cytokines.

TL;DR: It is reported here that the impact of myokines on beta-cells depends on fiber types and their metabolic status, and that type I and type II muscles could impact insulin secretion and beta-cell mass differentially in type 2 diabetes through specific myokine secretion.
Journal ArticleDOI

Assessment of the allergic reaction in seasonal rhinitis: acoustic rhinometry is a sensitive and objective method.

TL;DR: Seasonal allergic rhinitis constitutes an excellent in vivo model of an allergic mucosal inflammatory reaction and offers the opportunity of studying the fundamentals of allergic inflammation in addition to improvement of knowledge on the basal pathophysiological mechanisms of the disease.
Journal ArticleDOI

A longitudinal study of the influence of azathioprine on natural killer cell activity.

Bente Klarlund Pedersen, +1 more
- 01 May 1986 -
TL;DR: In vitro incubation of mono nuclear cells from a healthy donor with azathioprine or 6‐mercaptopurine in concentrations not reducing cell viability did not inhibit NK cell activity, nor did sera from patients treated with azithioprine for more than 6 months.
