Body size and breast cancer risk: findings from the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition (EPIC).
Petra H. Lahmann,Kurt Hoffmann,Naomi E. Allen,Carla H. van Gils,Kay-Tee Khaw,Bertrand Tehard,Franco Berrino,Anne Tjønneland,Janne Bigaard,Anja Olsen,Kim Overvad,Françoise Clavel-Chapelon,Gabriele Nagel,Heiner Boeing,Dimitrios Trichopoulos,George D. Key,Gillian K Reeves,Sheila Bingham,Teresa Norat,Carine Biessy,Rudolf Kaaks,Elio Riboli +40 more
TL;DR: Excess breast cancer risk with HRT was particularly evident among lean women, and general obesity is a significant predictor of breast cancer, while abdominal fat assessed as waist–hip ratio or waist circumference was not related to excess risk when adjusted for BMI.
Journal ArticleDOI
Overweight, obesity and fat distribution in 50- to 64 year old participants in the European prospective investigation into Cancer and Nutrition (EPIC)
M Haftenberger,Petra H. Lahmann,Salvatore Panico,Carlos A. González,Jacob C. Seidell,Heiner Boeing,Maria Concetta Giurdanella,Krogh,H. B. Bueno-De-Mesquita,P. H. M. Peeters,Guri Skeie,Anette Hjartåker,M Rodriguez,Quiros,Göran Berglund,Urban Janlert,Kay-Tee Khaw,Elizabeth A Spencer,Kim Overvad,Anne Tjønneland,Françoise Clavel-Chapelon,Bertrand Tehard,Anthony B. Miller,Kerstin Klipstein-Grobusch,[No Value] Benetou,G Kiriazi,Elio Riboli,Nadia Slimani +27 more
TL;DR: Anthropometric measures varied considerably within the EPIC population, providing a strong base for further investigation of anthropometric measures in relation to the risk of chronic diseases, especially cancer.
Journal ArticleDOI
Alcohol and genetic polymorphisms: effect on risk of alcohol-related cancer.
Nathalie Druesne-Pecollo,Bertrand Tehard,Yann Mallet,Mariette Gerber,Teresa Norat,Serge Hercberg,Paule Latino-Martel +6 more
TL;DR: Current data lend support to a role of polymorphisms ADH1B and ALDH2 combined with alcohol consumption in cancer, and other available data are insufficient or inconclusive, highlighting the need for additional studies.
Journal ArticleDOI
Age at Menarche in Relation to Adult Height The EPIC Study
N. C. Onland-Moret,P. H. M. Peeters,C. H. van Gils,F. Clavel-Chapelon,Timothy J. Key,Anne Tjønneland,Antonia Trichopoulou,Rudolph Kaaks,Jonas Manjer,Salvatore Panico,Domenico Palli,Bertrand Tehard,M Stoikidou,H. B. Bueno-De-Mesquita,H. Boeing,Kim Overvad,Per Lenner,J. R. Quirós,M-D Chirlaque,A.B. Miller,Kay-Tee Khaw,Elio Riboli +21 more
TL;DR: Based on time trends, more recent birth cohorts have their menarche earlier and grow taller, however, women with earlier menarches reach a shorter adult height compared with women who have menarChe at a later age.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effect of Physical Activity on Women at Increased Risk of Breast Cancer: Results from the E3N Cohort Study
TL;DR: A risk reduction of breast cancer was particularly observed with vigorous recreational activity, and it is needed to confirm that intensity is an important variable to consider in risk reduction and to identify the precise biological mechanisms involved in such a risk reduction.
