Smoking and the risk of gastric cancer in the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition (EPIC)
Carlos A. González,Guillem Pera,Antonio Agudo,Domenico Palli,Vittorio Krogh,Paolo Vineis,Rosario Tumino,Salvatore Panico,Göran Berglund,Henrik Simán,Olof Nyrén,Åsa Ågren,Carmen Martinez,Miren Dorronsoro,Aurelio Barricarte,María J. Tormo,José Ramón Quirós,Naomi E. Allen,Sheila Bingham,Nicholas E. Day,A.B. Miller,Gabriele Nagel,Heiner Boeing,Kim Overvad,Anne Tjønneland,H. Bas Bueno-de-Mesquita,Hendriek C. Boshuizen,Petra H.M. Peeters,Mattijs E. Numans,François Clavel-Chapelon,Ishaki Helen,Emmanuel Agapitos,Eiliv Lund,Michael T. Fahey,Rodolfo Saracci,Rudolf Kaaks,Elio Riboli +36 more
TL;DR: Findings from this large study support the causal relation between smoking and gastric cancer in this European population and should be added to the burden of diseases caused by smoking.
Journal ArticleDOI
Age at Menarche in Relation to Adult Height The EPIC Study
N. C. Onland-Moret,P. H. M. Peeters,C. H. van Gils,F. Clavel-Chapelon,Timothy J. Key,Anne Tjønneland,Antonia Trichopoulou,Rudolph Kaaks,Jonas Manjer,Salvatore Panico,Domenico Palli,Bertrand Tehard,M Stoikidou,H. B. Bueno-De-Mesquita,H. Boeing,Kim Overvad,Per Lenner,J. R. Quirós,M-D Chirlaque,A.B. Miller,Kay-Tee Khaw,Elio Riboli +21 more
TL;DR: Based on time trends, more recent birth cohorts have their menarche earlier and grow taller, however, women with earlier menarches reach a shorter adult height compared with women who have menarChe at a later age.
Journal Article
Group Level Validation of Protein Intakes Estimated by 24-Hour Diet Recall and Dietary Questionnaires against 24-Hour Urinary Nitrogen in the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition (EPIC) Calibration Study
Nadia Slimani,Sheila Bingham,Shirley A. Runswick,Pietro Ferrari,Nicholas E. Day,Ailsa A Welch,Timothy J. Key,A.B. Miller,Heiner Boeing,Sabina Sieri,Fabrizio Veglia,D. Palli,Salvatore Panico,Rosario Tumino,Bas Bueno-de-Mesquita,Marga C. Ocké,Françoise Clavel-Chapelon,Antonia Trichopoulou,Wija A. van Staveren,Elio Riboli +19 more
TL;DR: Although relatively high correlations were observed between urinary N and both dietary methods in men, the errors in DQs tend to vary in both directions (under- and over-reporting) in contrast with 24-HDRs in women, which may have implications on the dietary measurement error characteristics and support the potential benefit of between-cohort calibration.
Journal ArticleDOI
Food and nutrient intake, anthropometric measurements and smoking according to alcohol consumption in the EPIC Heidelberg study.
TL;DR: The results show that alcohol consumption is associated with dietary consumption patterns and smoking, and it will be important to consider dietary patterns and other lifestyle parameters when investigating the health effects of alcohol intake in the future.
