Journal ArticleDOI
Sustained High Cure Rate of Artemether-Lumefantrine against Uncomplicated Plasmodium falciparum Malaria after 8 Years of Its Wide-Scale Use in Bagamoyo District, Tanzania.
Richard Mwaiswelo,Billy Ngasala,J. Pedro Gil,Maja Malmberg,Irina Jovel,Weiping Xu,Zul Premji,Bruno P. Mmbando,Anders Björkman,Andreas Mårtensson +9 more
TL;DR: The AL cure rate remained high after 8 years of its wide-scale use in Bagamoyo district for the treatment of uncomplicated P. falciparum malaria despite an increase in prevalence of pretreatment Pfmdr1 N86 and Pfcrt K76 between 2006 and 2014.
Journal ArticleDOI
High cure rates and tolerability of artesunate–amodiaquine and dihydroartemisinin–piperaquine for the treatment of uncomplicated falciparum malaria in Kibaha and Kigoma, Tanzania
Celine I. Mandara,Celine I. Mandara,Filbert Francis,Mercy G. Chiduo,Billy Ngasala,Renata Mandike,Sigsbert Mkude,Frank Chacky,Fabrizio Molteni,Ritha Njau,Ally Mohamed,Marian Warsame,Deus S. Ishengoma +12 more
TL;DR: Both artemisinin-based combinations had high cure rates with PCR corrected ACPR of 100%.
Journal ArticleDOI
A panel of recombinant proteins from human-infective Plasmodium species for serological surveillance.
Nicole Müller-Sienerth,Jarrod Shilts,Khamisah Abdul Kadir,Victor Yman,Manijeh Vafa Homann,Muhammad Asghar,Billy Ngasala,Billy Ngasala,Balbir Singh,Anna Färnert,Anna Färnert,Gavin J. Wright +11 more
TL;DR: An antigen panel has been compiled that will be useful to determine exposure to Plasmodium proteins in a secreted functional form and it was shown that exposure to P. knowlesi could be accurately detected using an antigen panel consisting of the P.knowlesi orthologues of MSP10, P12 and P38.
Journal ArticleDOI
Profile of C-reactive protein, white cells and neutrophil populations in febrile children from rural north-eastern Tanzania.
Coline Mahende,Billy Ngasala,John Lusingu,John Lusingu,Thomas Mårtensson,Paminus Lushino,Martha M. Lemnge,Bruno P. Mmbando,Zul Premji +8 more
TL;DR: CRP assessment together with IMCI guidelines may be useful in assisting the diagnosis and management of paediatric febrile infections in Tanzania.
Journal ArticleDOI
MRP2/ABCC2 C1515Y polymorphism modulates exposure to lumefantrine during artemether-lumefantrine antimalarial therapy.
Karin Vos,Carlotta Lo Sciuto,Rita Piedade,Michael Ashton,Anders Björkman,Billy Ngasala,Andreas Mårtensson,José Pedro Gil,José Pedro Gil +8 more
TL;DR: LUM body disposition may be influenced by MRP2/ABCC2 genotype, and the 1515YY genotype was significantly associated with higher LUM D7 concentrations.
