Journal ArticleDOI
Grafts of fetal dopamine neurons survive and improve motor function in Parkinson's disease
Olle Lindvall,Patrik Brundin,Håkan Widner,S Rehncrona,Björn Gustavii,Richard S. J. Frackowiak,Klaus L. Leenders,G. V. Sawle,John C. Rothwell,C. D. Marsden +9 more
TL;DR: The grafts, which were implanted unilaterally into the putamen by stereotactic surgery, restored dopamine synthesis and storage in the grafted area, as assessed by positron emission tomography with 6-L-[18F]fluorodopa.
Journal ArticleDOI
Bilateral fetal mesencephalic grafting in two patients with parkinsonism induced by 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine (MPTP)
Håkan Widner,J Tetrud,S Rehncrona,B J Snow,Patrik Brundin,Björn Gustavii,Anders Björklund,Olle Lindvall,J W Langston +8 more
TL;DR: Bilateral implantation of fetal mesencephalic tissue can induce substantial long-term functional improvement in patients with parkinsonism and severe dopamine depletion and is accompanied by increased uptake of fluorodopa by the striatum.
Journal ArticleDOI
Short‐ and long‐term survival and function of unilateral intrastriatal dopaminergic grafts in Parkinson's disease
Gregor K. Wenning,Per Odin,P. K. Morrish,Stig Rehncrona,Håkan Widner,Patrik Brundin,John C. Rothwell,Richard G. Brown,Björn Gustavii,Peter Hagell,Marjan Jahanshahi,G. V. Sawle,Anders Björklund,David J. Brooks,C. David Marsden,Niall Quinn,Olle Lindvall +16 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that transplantation of embryonic mesencephalic tissue leads to highly reproducible survival of dopaminergic neurons, inducing clinically valuable improvements in most recipients.
Journal ArticleDOI
Bilateral caudate and putamen grafts of embryonic mesencephalic tissue treated with lazaroids in Parkinson's disease
Patrik Brundin,Oliver Pogarell,Peter Hagell,Paola Piccini,Håkan Widner,A. Schrag,Andreas Kupsch,Lesley Crabb,Per Odin,Björn Gustavii,Anders Björklund,David J. Brooks,C. D. Marsden,W. H. Oertel,Niall Quinn,Stig Rehncrona,Olle Lindvall +16 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that tirilazad mesylate may improve survival of grafted dopamine neurons in patients, which is in agreement with observations in experimental animals.

How to Write and Illustrate a Scientific Paper
TL;DR: In this paper, basic rules of writing have been defined for scientific writing, including how to choose a journal, how to design tables, and how to present statistical results, as well as dealing with editors and referees.
