B cell depletion therapy ameliorates autoimmune disease through ablation of IL-6–producing B cells
Tom A. Barr,Ping Shen,Sheila Brown,Vicky Lampropoulou,Toralf Roch,Sarah Lawrie,Boli Fan,Richard A. O’Connor,Stephen M. Anderton,Amit Bar-Or,Simon Fillatreau,David Gray +11 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors demonstrate that BCDT alleviates central nervous system autoimmunity through ablation of IL-6secreting pathogenic B cells, which is a major mechanism of B cell-driven pathogenesis in T cell-mediated autoimmune disease.
Journal ArticleDOI
Abnormal B-cell cytokine responses a trigger of T-cell-mediated disease in MS?
Amit Bar-Or,Lama Fawaz,Boli Fan,Peter J. Darlington,Aja Rieger,Christine Ghorayeb,Peter A. Calabresi,Emmanuelle Waubant,Stephen L. Hauser,Jiameng Zhang,Craig H. Smith +10 more
TL;DR: To study antibody‐independent contributions of B cells to inflammatory disease activity, and the immune consequences of B‐cell depletion with rituximab, in patients with multiple sclerosis (MS).
Journal ArticleDOI
Secretory products of multiple sclerosis B cells are cytotoxic to oligodendroglia in vitro
Robert P. Lisak,Joyce A. Benjamins,Liljana Nedelkoska,Jennifer L. Barger,Samia Ragheb,Boli Fan,Boli Fan,Nadia Ouamara,Nadia Ouamara,Trina A. Johnson,Trina A. Johnson,Sathyanath Rajasekharan,Sathyanath Rajasekharan,Amit Bar-Or,Amit Bar-Or +14 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that B cells from patients with RRMS but not NC secrete one or more factors toxic to OL, and it is possible that such factors produced by peripheral blood B cells when within the CNS could contribute to demyelination in MS patients.
Journal ArticleDOI
Serial combination therapy: is immune modulation in multiple sclerosis enhanced by initial immune suppression?:
Amit Bar-Or,Joel Oger,Ebrima Gibbs,Masaaki Niino,Tariq Aziz,Renoux C,Sudabeh Alatab,Fu-Dong Shi,Denise I. Campagnolo,Farzaneh Jalili,Susan Rhodes,Yamashita T,Boli Fan,M. S. Freedman,Hillel Panitch,Douglas L. Arnold,Timothy Vollmer +16 more
TL;DR: The enhanced efficacy of mitoxantrone–GA combination regimen was associated with decreased, rather than increased, efficiency of shifting the GA-reactive IgG1/IgG4 antibody profile, providing important insights into mechanisms of combination therapy and therapeutic strategies for autoimmune diseases.
