Journal ArticleDOI
Magnetotransport properties of magnetically soft spin‐valve structures (invited)
Bernard Dieny,Virgil Simon Speriosu,Serhat Metin,Stuart S. P. Parkin,Bruce Alvin Gurney,Peter Michael Baumgart,Dennis R. Wilhoit +6 more
TL;DR: In this article, the magnetic and magnetotransport properties of several series of sandwiches consisting of two ferromagnetic layers (Ni, Co, Ni80Fe20) separated by a noble metal (Cu, Ag, Au) are described.
Journal ArticleDOI
Design, fabrication and testing of spin-valve read heads for high density recording
C. Tsang,Robert E. Fontana,Tsann Lin,David Eugene Heim,Virgil Simon Speriosu,Bruce Alvin Gurney,M.L. Williams +6 more
TL;DR: In this article, the spin-valve sensors of the type NiFe/Cu/Co have been designed for optimal biasing behavior and successfully incorporated into a gigabit-type shielded read head configuration with a read trackwidth of 2 /spl mu/m, a read gap of 0.25 /spl µ/m and a MR sensor height of 1 /spl mm/m.
Journal ArticleDOI
Antiferromagnetically coupled magnetic media layers for thermally stable high-density recording
Eric E. Fullerton,D. T. Margulies,M. E. Schabes,Matthew J. Carey,Bruce Alvin Gurney,Andreas Moser,Margaret Evans Best,Gabriel Zeltzer,Kurt A. Rubin,Hal J. Rosen,M. Doerner +10 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a magnetic recording medium composed of two ferromagnetic layers separated by a nonmagnetic layer whose thickness is tuned to couple the layers antiferromagneticically.
Journal ArticleDOI
Bit Patterned Magnetic Recording: Theory, Media Fabrication, and Recording Performance
Thomas R. Albrecht,Hitesh Arora,Vipin Ayanoor-Vitikkate,J.-M. L. Beaujour,Daniel Bedau,David Berman,Alexei Bogdanov,Yves-Andre Chapuis,Julia D. Cushen,E. Dobisz,Gregory S. Obukhov,Kanaiyalal C. Patel,Kurt A. Rubin,Ricardo Ruiz,Manfred Ernst Schabes,Lei Wan,Dieter Weller,Tsai-Wei Wu,En Yan +30 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors describe a BPM fabrication method which combines e-beam lithography, directed self-assembly of block copolymers, self-aligned double patterning, nanoimprint lithography and ion milling to generate BPM based on CoCrPt alloys.

Magnetoresistive spin valve sensor having a nonmagnetic back layer
Bruce Alvin Gurney,David Eugene Heim,Haralambos Lefakis,Iii Omar U Need,Buaajiru Saimon Superiosu,Dennis R. Wilhoit +5 more
TL;DR: In this article, the spin valve effect was applied to a magnetoresistive read sensor based on spin valve effects, where a component of the read element resistance varies as the cosine of the angle between the magnetization directions in two adjacent magnetic layers.
