Journal ArticleDOI
A sensitive silver stain for detecting lipopolysaccharides in polyacrylamide gels.
Chao-Ming Tsai,Carl E. Frasch +1 more
TL;DR: A sensitive silver stain for detecting bacterial lipopolysaccharides in polyacrylamide gels is developed by modifying the silver-staining method used for proteins, which is 500 times more sensitive than the periodic acid-Schiff stain and can detect less than 5 ng of rough type lipopolySaccharides.
Journal ArticleDOI
Serotype antigens of Neisseria meningitidis and a proposed scheme for designation of serotypes.
TL;DR: A new serotyping nomenclature and scheme based on these two proteins and the lipopolysaccharide are proposed, which are predominant proteins, show a useful degree of antigenic variation, and are epidemiologically relevant.
Journal ArticleDOI
Restoration of immunity in lymphopenic individuals with cancer by vaccination and adoptive T-cell transfer
Aaron P. Rapoport,Edward A. Stadtmauer,Nicole A. Aqui,Ashraf Badros,Julio Cotte,Lisa Chrisley,Elizabeth Veloso,Zhaohui Zheng,Sandra Westphal,Rebecca Mair,Nina Chi,Bashi Ratterree,Mary Francis Pochran,Sabrina Natt,Joanne Hinkle,C Sickles,Ambika Sohal,Kathleen Ruehle,Christian Lynch,Lei Zhang,David L. TL;DR: Combination immunotherapy consisting of a single early post-transplant infusion of in vivo vaccine-primed and ex vivo costimulated autologous T cells followed by post-Transplant booster immunizations improved the severe immunodeficiency associated with high-dose chemotherapy and led to the induction of clinically relevant immunity in adults within a month after transplantation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay for quantitation of human antibodies to pneumococcal polysaccharides.
Catherine M. Wernette,Carl E. Frasch,Dace V. Madore,George M. Carlone,David Goldblatt,Brian D. Plikaytis,William H. Benjamin,Sally A. Quataert,Steve Hildreth,Daniel J. Sikkema,Helena Käyhty,Ingileif Jonsdottir,Moon H. Nahm +12 more
TL;DR: Streptococcus pneumoniae is a major human pathogen causing pneumonia, sepsis, meningitis, and otitis media, and elderly adults because their immune systems are either unprepared or unable to respond effectively to it.
Standardization and a Multilaboratory Comparison ofNeisseria meningitidisSerogroup A and C Serum Bactericidal Assays
Susan E. Maslanka,Linda L. Gheesling,Daniel E. Libutti,Kimberley B. J. Donaldson,Hani S. Harakeh,Janet K. Dykes,Francis F. Arhin,Sarvamangala J.N. Devi,Carl E. Frasch,Jay C. Huang,Paula Kriz-Kuzemenska,Robert D. Lemmon,Manon Lorange,Carla C. A. M. Peeters,Sally A. Quataert,Joseph Y. Tai,George M. Carlone +16 more
TL;DR: The specified assay, which includes the critical parameters of target strain, incubation time, and complement source, will facilitate interlaboratory comparisons of the functional antibody produced in response to current or developing serogroup A and C meningococcal vaccines.
