TL;DR: It is suggested that percentage dense area is a stronger breast cancer risk factor than absolute dense area, but it is unclear whether the association is independent ofabsolute dense area.
Journal ArticleDOI
Menopausal Hormone Therapy and Risk of Endometrial Carcinoma Among Postmenopausal Women in the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition
Naomi E. Allen,Konstantinos K. Tsilidis,Timothy J. TL;DR: The finding of a strong increased risk of endometrial cancer with estrogen-only HT and a weaker association with combined HT supports the hypothesis that progestins have an attenuating effect on endometricrial cancer risk.
Journal ArticleDOI
Breast cancer research in Asia: adopt or adapt Western knowledge?
Nirmala Bhoo-Pathy,Nirmala Bhoo-Pathy,Cheng Har Yip,Mikael Hartman,Cuno S. P. M. Uiterwaal,Beena C.R. Devi,Petra H.M. Peeters,Nur Aishah Taib,Carla H. van Gils,Helena M. Verkooijen +9 more
TL;DR: Diagnostic and prognostic study findings, including breast cancer prediction rules, are increasingly shown to be 'setting specific' and must therefore be validated in Asian women before implementing them in clinical care in Asia.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mammographic density and breast cancer risk: the role of the fat surrounding the fibroglandular tissue.
Mariëtte Lokate,Petra H.M. Peeters,Petra H.M. Peeters,L. M. Peelen,Gerco Haars,Wouter B. Veldhuis,Carla H. van Gils +6 more
TL;DR: The results indicate that the non-dense tissue, which represents the local breast fat, increases risk, even independent of body mass index (BMI), when studying dense breast tissue in relation to breast cancer risk.
Journal ArticleDOI
The estrogen receptor alpha gene and breast cancer risk (The Netherlands).
N. Charlotte Onland-Moret,Carla H. van Gils,Mark Roest,Diederick E. Grobbee,Petra H.M. Peeters +4 more
TL;DR: The results of this study suggest that the Pvu II polymorphism in the ER-α, or another mutation in linkage disequilibrium with PvuII, in combination with high E2 levels increases breast cancer risk in postmenopausal women.
