Journal ArticleDOI
Human cathepsin O. Molecular cloning from a breast carcinoma, production of the active enzyme in Escherichia coli, and expression analysis in human tissues.
TL;DR: Northern blot analysis of poly(A)+ RNAs isolated from a variety of human tissues demonstrated that cathepsin O is expressed in all examined tissues, which is consistent with a putative role of this protein as a proteolytic enzyme involved in normal cellular protein degradation and turnover.
Journal ArticleDOI
Loss of OMA1 delays neurodegeneration by preventing stress-induced OPA1 processing in mitochondria
Anne Korwitz,Carsten Merkwirth,Ricarda Richter-Dennerlein,Simon E. Tröder,Hans-Georg Sprenger,Pedro M. Quirós,Carlos López-Otín,Elena I. Rugarli,Thomas Langer,Thomas Langer +9 more
TL;DR: Loss of OMA1 in a mouse model of neurodegeneration stabilizes fusion-active L-OPA1, which supports neuronal survival by preventing apoptosis, independent of its effects on cristae morphogenesis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Cystatin D is a candidate tumor suppressor gene induced by vitamin D in human colon cancer cells
Silvia ρlvarez-Díaz,Noelia Valle,José Miguel García,Cristina Peña,José M.P. Freije,Víctor Quesada,Aurora Astudillo,Félix Bonilla,Carlos López-Otín,Alberto Muñoz +9 more
TL;DR: It is proposed that CST5 has tumor suppressor activity that may contribute to the antitumoral action of 1alpha,25(OH)2D3 in colon cancer.
Journal ArticleDOI
Regulation of TMPRSS6 by BMP6 and iron in human cells and mice.
Delphine Meynard,Valentina Vaja,Valentina Vaja,Chia Chi Sun,Elena Corradini,Shanzhuo Chen,Carlos López-Otín,Lovorka Grgurevic,Charles C. Hong,Marit Stirnberg,Michael Gütschow,Slobodan Vukicevic,Jodie L. Babitt,Herbert Y. Lin +13 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that, in vitro, treatment with BMP6 stimulates TMPRSS6 expression at the mRNA and protein levels and leads to an increase in matriptase-2 activity, and it is identified that inhibitor of DNA binding 1 is the key element of the BMP-SMAD pathway to regulate TMPR SS6 expression in response to B MP6 treatment.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mutations in TLR/MYD88 pathway identify a subset of young chronic lymphocytic leukemia patients with favorable outcome.
Alejandra Martínez-Trillos,Magda Pinyol,Alba Navarro,Marta Aymerich,Pedro Jares,Manel Juan,María Rozman,Dolors Colomer,Julio Delgado,Eva Giné,Marcos González-Díaz,Jesús M. Hernández-Rivas,Enrique Colado,Consolación Rayón,Angel Ramirez Payer,María José Terol,Blanca Navarro,Víctor Quesada,Xose S. Puente,Ciril Rozman,Carlos López-Otín,Elias Campo,Armando López-Guillermo,Neus Villamor +23 more
TL;DR: TLR/myD88 mutations identify a population of young CLL patients with favorable outcome and overall survival was better in TLR/MYD88-mutated patients than unmutated patients in the whole series and in the subset of patients age ≤50 years.
